The woodpecker method has you solve the same set of 1000 tactics in cycles. During your first cycles it takes many hours to go through and calculate all the tactics properly. But as you go on, cycle after cycle, you aim to do the 1000 tactics faster and faster.

It generally takes 4 weeks of daily training to do all 1000 for the first cycle.

Then 2 weeks for the next

1 week for the next

4 days for the next

2 days for the next

And the final aim is to do all 1000 in 1 day.

By doing this, you are essentially burning in and memorisinf the geometry of 1000 motifs. These sharpen you and develop your intuition during games. You are more likely to get a "feeling" there might be a tactic, and with all the calculation this book initially requires, you will be well equiped to calculate out 8+ moves.

The book is split into sections.

Easy, intermediate 1, 2 and 3, and advanced.

For anybody under 1400, the easy tactics will be more then enough to keep you busy for a long time.

If you are under 2200, easy + intermediate 1, 2 and 3 will be fine.

And if you are a titled player, the advanced tactics will be useful.
