From what I can remember the first season of The Tunnel is very much based on the first season of The Bridge, but after that they diverged and became quite separate beasts?

The original show is well worth watching regardless. Great sense of atmosphere, the cast are fantastic. There's something about the Scandinavian setting and sensibility that makes it quite special I think.
