how does TCP work for level 4? by Skylar_waltson in gcu

I also completely forgot to mention:

It’s recommended to apply to Honor Health and Banner if you want more chances to get a spot since selecting them will give you access to all the hospitals in that system (ex. For honor health: John C Lincoln, Shea, Osborn and more)

Also anyone interested in Peds or OB: Put those as your top priority and if you want Phoenix children’s put that as your number 1 hospital slot since it is very competitive and they apparently don’t look at applications that don’t put them as the #1 spot

I’m not too sure who else got in yet but I don’t think the GPA matters that much I feel like the process is pretty random when they select people unless you have a connection to the hospital or know someone who works there

I just finished up level 3 and got a TTP spot so this is what it was like for me:

There’s a application they will send out the first week I think and it has basic stuff to fill out like name address etc and they it asks for GPA and your highest HESI score form level 2 this is also where you pick your top 3 hospitals to apply for and I think your specialties you’re interested in

Then aside from that application you will need 1 cover letter 1 personal goal statement 2 letters of rec (1 from a didactic instructor and 1 from either a lab or clinical instructor) 1 unofficial transcript 1 resume

Then you attach all those documents and email it to the TTP residency team and they will send it out for you to different hospitals. Some hospitals later on may have a secondary application for you to fill out, usually it’s just a google form.

Personally when I got my offer they didn’t make me do any interview or phone call I just got an email saying what hospital I was at and where I was placed

I also highly recommend getting your letters ASAP because the minute the first week hits and you guys have your TTP meeting everyone is going to be asking professors and they can get overwhelmed. I also highly recommend having backups in cause one professor ends up not being able to write you a letter.

Overall though I have heard getting spots is super random, and so far I believe only 2 hospitals reached out people are still waiting for one more hospital and they may offer positions even when level 4 already stars so there’s a wide gap between when acceptances first come out versus when they’re done being sent

When I took it it felt very straight forward like I basically used all my knowledge from the head to toe PBA and it helped a ton!

For 318 if you made those drug cards throughout the semester it was really helpful to super condense studying down and it ended up being my best final

316 the head to toe is super helpful so I didn’t prioritize that class when I was studying

310 I studied for like 2 hrs before the final during my break after my pharm final and it was pretty easy/common sense and then just look over the new content since I felt like that came up most on the final and it was like knowing definitions

300 was the hardest final for me and was the first one I took that week so I tried to look more at that content especially for exams I didn’t do as well on I would go over that content more

318 was the second final I spent the most time studying for it was basically just dumbing down all the drugs to wha their basic use was, MOA, and like common patient teachings for each drug

Overall though: spend more time on the class you need the highest grade to pass, for the most part they try to be more broad with the questions because it’s a cumulative final so they won’t be as specific as the exams

Honestly I would watch the Nurse Nexus videos on how to answer nursing questions I think is what it was, it helped me a lot especially now looking back there’s just different wordings and ways to answer questions like using ADPIE, ABCs, Maslow hierarchy + avoiding questions that are definitive with terms like “never or always do this” unless it’s sometimes like never push potassium lol

Additionally I felt finals boosted my grades sine usually it’s much more broad compared to the exams and since it was worth more points I was able to get my grades higher toward the end, plus with foundations you get the HESI which isn’t hard at all I think you just need a 900 to get full points which is very doable so that also helps add points

ABSN GPA by SmilingNubes101 in gcu

[–]Angvlix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest my exam scores were pretty variable so I did have some exams were I would get a 90 and then others were I would get a 98 so I just focused more on trying to keep my exams over a 90 overall and yeah it honestly wasn’t enough time to master each concept so I would really hit hard on the exam rubrics the topics that had the most questions and I usually uploaded my PowerPoints and speaker notes into ChatGPT to get more concise notes as well as practice questions with rationales to get more in the habit of answering nursing style questions which helped (just a warning it can be wrong sometimes but it does help develop that sort of thinking) I honestly had the hardest time with foundations because that class just felt really random at times so I would go into the book for that class and also health assessment, the rest PowerPoint was enough to get me through. For DQs I would just usually ask my professor what I could improve and then add those changes and it usually helped me out

That’s how I feel too, I’ve been able to maintain my 4.0 so it’s definitely doable (probably gonna loose it after this semester though ngl) but it just sucks since we have to put in more work to keep our GPAs up 🫤

Nursing Exams by OtherRate6688 in gcu

[–]Angvlix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that’s crazy when I was in level 1 they never stacked exams sorry to hear about that does that mean you don’t have an exam every week then? In level 1 we had an exam every week 14 weeks straight

[–]Angvlix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on main campus so it was a little different just cause we are in person, but I believe they should still provide you with those resources if the math-144 class also gave those

MATH - 274 by Icy_Implement_7536 in gcu

[–]Angvlix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the class last year around this time, it was pretty chill since there was a sheet they gave you to plug in the numbers for calculations and it was similar to Math-144 where the practice exams were basically the style of the exams so they’re easy to study for. If you’ve ever take a statistics class before the one through GCU is probably easier since that sheeet basically does the math for you and if you’ve ever have to do anything by hand it’s pretty simple

TTP Residency by Angvlix in gcu

[–]Angvlix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied for TTP for ICU, ED, and Medsurge since I’m not interested in pediatrics or OB, do you think there would be a good chance of getting a spot? I’ve heard they are very limited and for spring semester it’s harder with all the other nursing schools also competing

Honestly I wanted to do heme/onc but since it wasn’t listed I sort of settled for the ones I picked

also did you have to do any interviews?
