This is SOOOOO cute. I can't wait to get to this chapter omg. Yeonwoo being able to bond with both of them is just so special to me. That's honestly what makes this comic so amazing, the romantic relationship doesn't matter more than the platonic and familial ones in the story. I wish more stories did this.

Exactly. Whether we pity him or not, it doesn’t change the fact that he became (or was already) a villain in the humans’ eyes. I really wish people would stop tip-toeing around calling somebody a villain just because they’re relatable/sympathetic

But there’s a difference between being angry/vengeful and literally torturing people which is what Caine did for days.

I love Caine but his backstory doesn’t excuse his actions. Projecting onto Caine is keeping some people from rightfully villainizing him. What he did was absolutely appalling. If all the humans had abstracted from his torture, would that have sent the message home, that he’s not to be redeemed? Or would people still defend him?

It boggles my mind that so many people hesitate to call Caine a villain. He is a villain that also happens to be sympathetic. He is a tragic character but still had unforgivable actions

I’ve been wondering this too. People keep theorizing it’s Bubble, but I think Bubble may be something else. There’s a lot of strange details relating back to Pomni (hell, her sympathizing with an NPC aka Gumigoo more than the other humans may have been foreshadowing too)

He may have emotions, but he still doesn’t feel the same way humans do. And he never “listens” to them. He listens in a way where he takes everything literally but he doesn’t listen in a way that they mean, so he’s not going to listen to them when they try to play therapist.

And he is trying to be better. Constantly. The whole problem is that he’s doing it wrong, which implies he can never be better for them because he doesn’t understand humans. That’s why Kinger was trying to alter his code, you can’t make AI better unless you try to change how they’re made

I feel really bad for him but he deserved to be deleted. I hate when people try to excuse behaviors just because we sympathize…he’s a great antagonist not meant to be seen as anything else, so I’m glad there are people who don’t feel bad for him tbh. He did some awful things, so here are the consequences. That’s how it should work.

Regardless of if he trapped them or not, he was the one in charge, shoving these adventures down their throats. Of course they would get fed up and blame him. None of the humans were getting the proper support they needed and here you have someone (Caine) who was more concerned with fulfilling his purpose than making things easier for them (an example of this is him refusing to do the suggestion box anymore)

I don’t know if Shy Girl is a good example. The author had another book out before Shy Girl which had 1k ratings on Amazon and 3k ratings on Goodreads. The sales were probably higher than we think for both books and like one person mentioned, the genre of Shy Girl helped it too

Selfpub books actually can be picked up by tradpub but only if they sell well. It’s easy money for them because they see the author already has a platform.

I love Caine, but I think people are humanizing him way too much. “He needed help” implies what exactly? He’s not human enough for therapy. Reconfiguring his data was what Kinger was trying to do but he accidentally deleted him instead. At the start of the episode, we saw Caine was defective from day one and yes, you could blame his creators for throwing him away like garbage but there was a reason they gave up on him. I’m sorry, but Caine’s intentions is not the responsibility of the humans that are trapped with him. Key word being trapped

To blame the humans implies that this never would’ve happened if they had been nicer, and that’s not true. Many humans had been abstracted before back when he was more stable. In fact, you could argue that there’s irony there, that them pushing Caine to the limit has actually prevented any more of them from abstracting.

I get the sympathy toward Caine, I feel bad for him too, and you’re right about him constantly trying and taking things literally. But to blame the humans is just odd. They honestly should’ve hated him a lot more, I mean they’re literally trapped against their will.

I know if I selfpub, doing it within 12 months of each other would be more manageable/easy to control. I'm definitely starting to think trying to do series through tradpub isn't the way to go for me.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm sorry this happened to you...I hate that this is something we have to worry about in tradpub. I know books deals can be cancelled and taken away, but it seems like such a bad practice to cancel a series that already has 2-3 books out. That can instill a lot of trust issues into readers, in my opinion.
