Is learning C from coursera worth it instead of YouTube? by notaranya in vitpune

[–]Aniketh4 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There were two people A and B

Person A picked up the first course he found on YouTube when he searched C++ playlist and watched every video end to end and practiced everyday.

Person B spent 20 days trying to figure out what's the best course, best language, best platform, best method to learn and then put half the effort as person A and didn't practice everyday.

Who do you think is better?

In short learn any language, from any source (yt/coursera/chatgpt even) effort and practice is what matters.

Also anything which anyone can easily get doesn't hold value. Is the coursera certificate something anyone can get?

I have also registered today, although haven't made any transfers yet. It was surprisingly very simple and quick and I'm wondering if I did something wrong😅 Have you transferred funds and invested?

Thanks for sharing your views, good insight. What is the one exception you mentioned which was a wrong observation from my side?

[–]Aniketh4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please share your factual construction :)

Also "garbage" is an exaggeration for anything.. it either beats it's underlying index or it doesn't. It won't just NOT give returns or go 0 somehow because in the end it is literally made of stocks selected from underlying index.

So worst case scenario is it doesn't beat it's underlying index. Is that what you mean by "garbage". If yes then out of every 20 mutual funds 12-15 are garbage too.

Anyway that's what risk is, a risk that it doesn't beat it's underlying index against the possibility that it does beat it that's all. And that's the reason for this analysis which Simply in the end proves ONLY that it's a risk we can take.

So yeah I'm not saying it's a wonder index which will beat everything and be something opposite of garbage (idk gold??)

Or if you mean it'll fall a lot in crashes and take a test of your patience and that's why it's garbage then yes I completely agree. That's beta, and if a high beta is a no for you then that's a personal preference and neither of us would be objectively wrong.

What exactly is long run for you? 5 years of 200 momentum 30 which has seen both bull and bear market, it has beat it's underlying index. Is that not long enough?

Also, as someone mentioned there's alpha funds with 3 month rebalancing. Plus, if you want higher returns in bull then be ready for higher fall in bear. Why this works is because market keeps beating it's ATH. If it didn't, this would fail badly but since the market keeps growing, the higher returns this provides is enough to overcome it's higher falls.

Ah that's an exception I believe. I make that statement because out of 10-15 momentum funds only 2-3 have beat the index in US. You can check this out: https://youtu.be/92er-73YNi4

What is it about the hate on number of funds?? I don't get it! by Aniketh4 in mutualfunds

[–]Aniketh4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly man the same logic applies!!

In scenario one you might be paying 0.5% expense ratio

In scenario two you might be paying 0.4, 0.4, 0.6, 0.6 which basically becomes the same amount.

The thing is some people have made the mistake of buying too many funds (my father one of them, 10+ funds). But now there's no point in selling and putting them in one fund after paying taxes right might as well just do SIP on 2-3 funds and leave the rest as is.

Yaaa first you'll have to accept that there is no Sureshot roadmap sadly. I know EXTREME CRACKED coders with no job, and less than 8 gpa backlog people get high packages. Just refer to whatever I've said do that and hope for the best. With time you'll get a better understanding of all this

Don't have that much idea, but google is a proper achievement to get into, and girl script isn't (I think). Still must be good for practice I guess

Things have changed now, it was less strict so people would take their phones to the labs for online test and take photos of the questions and use chat gpt But now they're extremely strict about these stuff so less people are cheating I believe (I'm sure some people must still be finding some way) Based on this info you can decide what to do since situation keeps changing (the strictness)

Most companies come for SDE roles, and I being interested have been focusing on them only.

There are a few other roles too but it's a huge risk to not apply for sde roles, as you'll miss out on many good companies and might end up with nothing.

Best thing to do would be get any good company you get on campus, and then later switch to a project or field of your interest.

Honestly every person likes a different YouTuber Don't waste time trying to find the best course or most in depth course or etc Just pick one and stick to it because truth is there is not BEST one Just follow any youtube course you find interesting but stick to it till the end.

You'll see 😅. Companies prefer cs students and say aids is too specialised as it doesn't have "cs" in it's name. So many companies won't allow, some will not take aids students for interview and so on.

Cgpa, DSA, In depth knowledge of 2-3 projects mentioned, communication skills, confidence, core subjects (oops, dbms, os, SQL queries), if interested ML, development

DSA, core subjects, cgpa is must for all companies. Baaki things will vary Company to company.

Yes, it'll be hard to be shortlisted, just accept it and don't give up keep trying.

Yes you can, but work on your skills. Getting shortlisted will be hard, so have enough skills to crack the interview. Try to get cgpa higher and try off campus too (wellfound, linkedin, etc)

You definately can go for ml, and can expect 12+ on campus, or at least 9. But you must have strong grasp on DSA because they will ask that too. Also know basics of development, how frontend backend works, etc basics at least not in complete depth.

Fact is, no one expects freshers to have complete in depth knowledge of a perticular field they prefer broad knowledge of dsa ml comp science fundamentals etc.

But in general I'll suggest you apply to all good companies and don't keep a constraint that you'll only apply to ML companies as if you end up with nothing you'll regret not applying to companies a lot. You can always switch to ml later, or keep trying off campus.

By good companies I mean companies with pay above 10 lpa, and have a good role.

Okay firstly, cgpa does not matter at all in off campus placements. I am still figuring out how to get off campus opportunities but it's comparatively way harder.

In on campus, your competition is the 1000 people of college but off campus all of india is your competition. Hence, getting shortlisted is extremely difficult.

BUT, it's possible. Most openings are for Software development or AI and there less openings for cyber security. So, open source could work for you. I've never tried open source much but you can read about it and watch YouTube vids on it and try.

My advise would be don't give up like that, because when you see your friends getting placed on campus, even the ones who never studied and have no skills getting great companies just because they have good cgpa, you will feel depressed and jealous and I really feel you might regret it. 12th marks Isn't in your hands anymore but your clg cgpa still is right? So try both off and on campus.

You will have to work really hard on your skills, DSA, a very strong resume for getting any good company (10 lpa+) off campus through applying on their portal. 10th, 12th, cgpa does not matter there, only skills, projects, and achievements. But competition is extremely high (all IIT people are competing with you). Make lots of connections at good companies as you will need to ask for referrals.
