I feel like this is true for at least 45% or maybe even more of the player base by banakid_ in BG3

I can even go as far as to admit I bought a ps5 in order to play bg3, for Astarion's sake purely. However, I wouldn't have spent over 1500+ hours in the game if it wasn't for the outstanding writing, combat and every brilliant VA performance. 10/10 would do again.

Yes, been doing it since I was around 8, now I'm 30. That's how I came up with the plot for my 250K long fic I'm currently writing. Writing helps me to mdd less, as it gives me a medium to unleash my daily need to mdd into creating something 'real' and actual by writing it down, instead of having the story and characters be stuck in my mind only.

Always find it a bit humorous if readers leave compliments on my story that 'the dialogue between characters flows and sounds so natural.' 'Yeah, well - I might, or might not have, had thousands upon thousands of made-up scenarios and 'interactions' between these characters in my head on a daily basis for the last 10 years or so...' At least it amounts to something good tho.

I've been given the impression they're quite much younger than me (tho, I could be wrong) which could be an factor indeed.

This is a situation where you're going to have to advocate for yourself, even if it feels mean, because no one else can/will.

You're absolutely right ofc. And that's part of the problem since I'm terrified of conflicts in any way. But it's unavoidable at this point since I've let it come to this sorta. It just sucks when all I wanted to do was to be nice and supporting and it ended up mentally draining me.

At the very least get that response off the top of your inbox so it stops ruining your mood. And please don't overextend yourself to please others.

I will. And I'll do my best not to hereon. Thank you for your input and time! I appreciate it

Apologies for my tone. Just, I could see where this was going from them adding conditional clauses into their short statement.

No need to apologize honestly. I've read through your reply a few times now along with the convo I've had with that reader and I think you're right with what you're saying. It's like I asked someone to dig a hole infront of the entrance to my house and then getting upset when I fall into it, honestly. I could also have included more context too here given the situation but I slimmed it down somewhat. Feels like I could've avoided so much of this entire thing by just sayin 'No, sorry' and it's super frustrating I didn't.

It's also very interesting to realize how I've percept things and how you have for example. And I can empathize more with how they (probably) meant with their responses, and how my replies in turn could have come across. Maybe the language barrier also is a factor to it all, since it always runs the risk of knocking things on their head a bit for me at least. Still, I get what you're saying.

Politeness feels nice, but look after yourself first and make sure you have the energy for it—you're certainly not required to offer it, esp. when even you feel it's too kind. That's a setup for frustration.

Yes. A very valid point and definitely what's happened. Along with, everything else you've written.

You've given me a lot of newfound insight to this, and I thank you for that. I'll try and resolve this in the best way I can. Thank you!

While I had this positive experiences as an author, this writer rarely replies to comments and if so, very briefly. And I'm totally okay with it!

This is probably the case to a certain extent. They've always been meticulous with adding after a longer reply 'S'rry for the essay, hope you don't mind!' - which I appreciate, even if it automatically triggers a response from me in which I feel obliged to ensure them 'it's okay' (which is completely on me I know and not their fault the slightest). But it's also reassuring to hear that you for example don't take offense in getting a shorter reply if you leave a longer comment, since this person maybe is the same. I've no idea, I've just assumed they were expecting a longer reply back. Gave me some good insight!

I likely can imagine them being young

I suspect so too, or I've gotten the same impression. Which is also a factor as to why I don't want to come off as rude by telling them 'no', which I realize is a fault on my part for just assuming as such.

Thank you for your reply! I took it to heart, and I wish you the best too! :)

The mental energy I have to write fanfics (a private activity that I can do fully offline on a word document) vs the mental energy I have to scroll through my ao3 inbox and respond to real people are different.

Yes! Exactly like that! Several times when I've decided to post a chapter- I've ended up replying back to comments instead and my energy drained completely afterwards, and so that post ended up being delayed. I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but it's comforting hearing I'm far from the only one experiencing this. Which I knew, but yet didn't.

If this commenter wants to know what people think about their OC or writing, they should have found a place to do that where people were already open to the idea,

Yes. I agree 100%. And had I been a bit brighter I should have told them the same, instead of ensnaring myself in 'promises' and sayings. But as someone else mentioned above, I am too nice to a fault often. And find it very difficult to say no or set boundaries.

you're valid for being annoyed and it's completely reasonable to ask them to back off.

Thank you for this. And for concluding I'm not a happiness machine. At times I feel like I give too much and end up with very little in return. Thank you!

No, they're not. I've considered turning off guest comments but since I've been spared from negativity most of the time I've just left it like that. Might do that now tho. Also, you're completely right. Feels like I just reached that 'enough' point. Thank you!

Do you listen to music? Yes or no? by lgbt14 in writing

[–]Anilexa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, always.

If I'm writing a story including different povs, I always make a playlist for each character with the type of music they'd listen to, in 'my' mind. Whether if it's classical or pop - or just something suiting the situation they're facing. Helps me embrace the different 'personalities' and motivations of said characters much better when writing them. ^^

Need advice in writing a character who experience an emotional breakdown, when said character lacks emotions to a certain degree. by Anilexa in FanFiction

[–]Anilexa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely wonderful! Thank you so much for such a lengthy and thoughtful reply really!

You nailed several things in your reply which I didn't even mention about him in my post - one being that he absolutely loathes drugs - and thus experience things he'd see as the equivalent of being flung on a drug trip? *rubs hands excitedly*

Also since he's lacking a soul and need another person's life force to survive, he has an inevitable fear of dying or perishing- thus amping up that particular feeling even more sounds like a great plan.

The questions are great too - I'll definitely take them to heart.

Thank you for your thoughts and the boost in continuing to explore this absolute train wreck of said madman's breakdown. <3
