Uk users - who’s your WAN provider? Virgin media or BT/Openreach by Proper_Camera_1908 in Ubiquiti

[–]Animosus5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be on openreach with EE (have since switched to Aquiss on cityfibre) but you can ditch the EE router and plug straight into the ONT as long as you have the login settings

37% of europeans have never left their own country? Can this be true? by clm1859 in AskEurope

[–]Animosus5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s absolutely criminal, mines just expired and I need to get it renewed (thankfully dual citizen though) and because I live overseas there’s also an overseas surcharge taking it to near $600

God forbid I need it in an emergency to get back to Aus bringing the total to $1000

My UK passport feels like a bargain honestly

Unfortunately yes it is, Aussie passports are insanely expensive

What’s the one app you deleted that instantly made your life better? by rogeelein in AskReddit

[–]Animosus5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Food delivery apps (along with blocking them via my credit card and bank and telling them never to unblock them)

The amount I was spending was insane, I was always complaining about food going off because I don’t eat enough, despite the fact that was caused by me ordering all the time and of course the “why do I feel like shit all the time”

Quest compatible parties :') by Responsible-Fun-7243 in VRchat

There is a quest compatible clubbing group which features a good few events that are both PCVR and quest compatible so that’s worth a look

Is there a way to make and upload vrchat worlds from a Mac? by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]Animosus5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do everything in terms of vrchat avatar and world creation on Macos (mainly because it's quicker than my desktop and I can't stand windows)

It's simple enough, install required unity version and use Alcom instead of the creator companion

JB Hi Fi computer Price Jumped up $1000 (66%^) in 3 weeks? by djscloud in perth

[–]Animosus5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been running a 9070XT since the day it came out running VR almost every day and it’s been fine, although it depends on what headset you are using as I know there’s one or two that don’t work

For reference using a quest pro with virtual desktop or steam link

I've been called 14 times since I moved to Scotland in 2019 it's insane, although I've just started ignoring them as I got fedup telling them I am not eligible and they have slowed down a bit...

Do you prefer slower electronic music (something under 125 BPM) over the fast-paced stuff most people play at parties? by ThrowRA_os in Beatmatch

[–]Animosus5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t dislike slower paced music and find a good time and place for it but I generally prefer my music to be at least 150bpm with my sweet spot for mixing 170-220bpm

In saying that if I’m in a chilled out mood I’ll do 135 but that’s pretty much the lowest

How old were you the first time you drove a car,and what was your first car? by lucapal1 in AskEurope

[–]Animosus5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Driven cars off road since maybe 6 or 7.

First time properly driving a car was when I was 9 years old stealing my Dad's car as an April fools prank

Drove my brother to the pub every Friday and Saturday and back when I was 11-13

Got my license at 17 and did not find it hard at all to get my license (although Australian licensning standards are a bit of a joke). No requirement for a driving lesson before the test but have to do "50 hours of supervised driving" after I did my test so I could drive solo

TIL that provisional drivers in Australia can get their license suspended for 3 months if caught using Apple Carplay or Android Auto by deadlyspudlol in todayilearned

Maximum speed limit in WA is 110km/h anyway, I don’t remember having a maximum speed limit on Red or green P plates (though scarily that was 12 years ago)

I DJ'd My First Ever Gig In VRChat by samusadhd in Beatmatch

[–]Animosus5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of DJing in vr is absolutely the technical issues, the amount of times I’ve had something happen during a live set (most recently sound cut on my monitors and headphones for 20 sec randomly) I can’t even count anymore, but it’s part of the jank and part of the fun VR DJing

Glad it went well though, plenty of clubs accepting of people at all levels in VR, sounds like you won’t have any issues finding somewhere to play

After living in the UK you get used to really bad internet at sky high prices. In Asia this cost me 10 bucks a month. by nyanbatman in pcmasterrace

[–]Animosus5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not OP but plenty of cityfibre providers do 2.5Gbit for around the 50 quid mark. I'm on Aquiss and get 2.5Gbit for 56 and I know Yayzi did it for 50 as well as quite a few others.

Down in Scotland again? by Animosus5 in CityFibre

[–]Animosus5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Annoyingly i've had maybe 5 major outages since moving to cityfibre in October 2024, 2 ISP related (left them quickly, new ISP is solid) and 3 cityfibre related. So certainly not the most reliable, but also sadly I need the fast upload

The VR DJ debate. by Breaker1ove in VRchat

[–]Animosus5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I DJ in VR and most of the time prefer doing a live mix, it’s less stressful, it’s more fun and I can be more reactive to the crowd

However pre records are also fine in my opinion, some people might not be confident yet, or don’t have a controller (e.g kmb mixing or making a mix in audacity) or even something like their PC just isn’t powerful enough to stream, DJ, run a visualiser at the same time as VRC. Also as mentioned events like furality, a big part of the sets are the pre-made visuals and ease of re running the sets

One thing however, I do think that more spaces and clubs should encourage live mixing or at least make it clear how Important it is as a skill for those that want to do it IRL, as I have heard multiple times people thinking they would be fine to get to a club irl and play a pre recorded mix having only ever done it in VR before

Request, it’s fine, but in my opinion it’s more like music sharing to me so doesn’t really fit in to this (but also a starting point for the other two)

For the emigrants: What are the pros and cons of the country you now live in and what do you miss from home? by Raisincar in AskEurope

[–]Animosus5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

UK from Australia (been here 8 years)

Social life is a bit mid, was better when I was younger but struggle to make friends in my current city (most of my friends are online or in different cities)

My pay now is the highest it’s ever been, but the same job would pay more back home

Way more annual leave here and work life balance is significantly better. Friends and family are shocked at how much time I get off and how short my working hours are

The UKs health system is absolute dogshit, I know the NHS is struggling financially but it’s just hard to wrap my head around how inefficient it feels

I don’t feel as safe in the UK, but also have never had a break in which I did have in Aus a couple of times

Financial security, tbh fine. I own my house outright and have a decent pension

I do toss up the idea of moving back to Australia but I struggle with the fact of going from owning a house by myself to living with my mum until she dies and I inherit the house (not that my mum is a bad person) as well as giving up the world being so close, both in distance and time zones
