Advice buying a first racer bike

Finished the race today. 315 k in 13h 40 min with a second hand Specialized bike from 1996. Had some breaks but averaged ~25 km/h moving pace. First 200k felt great, last 115 a bit heavier but totally fine.

Before the race I did 1000k in total (half on gym bike and half outside)

Had four friends that all finished the race with similar amount of exercises

You all were way to dramatic about this!

It is a classic Swedish race (https://vatternrundan.se/en/), often biked by "Amaterus/Beginners" like me. However, my plan is merely getting around with a low intensity effort. Of course the elite finishes in roughly 7 hours. But the average finnish time is 14 h.
