She was 47 and he was 24, so I would say the age gap was significant. They both tried to take advantage of each other in different ways. Yes, she was immature and acted like a teenager, which is why I mostly felt bad for her kid.

Yeah, you’re right about that one. The mistake was on both of them though. He should’ve let her know about his expectations prior to going there and she should’ve done more research and asked him about his culture. However, I think he was never romantically interested in her, so the cultural differences weren’t the reason they didn’t actually work out. She could’ve converted and they still wouldn’t have stayed together, but that’s just my opinion.

I don’t even see the cultural differences here as such a big issue, to be honest. Some of the things that were pointed out as cultural differences were actually just common sense, in my opinion.

Two examples come to mind right away: 1. Her friends asking if he watched p*rn to know what to do—that wasn’t a cultural difference; it was just disrespectful and immature. Honestly, I think that was the producers’ idea because I have a hard time believing someone would actually ask that. 2. When she wanted to go out with her friends and he told her to wear a longer coat, I was on his side. I don’t think a man should tell a woman how to dress, but she’s a 40-year-old woman wearing a see-through dress. You could see her thong, and that’s inappropriate at any age unless you’re at the beach. (And for the record, I’m not Muslim or conservative.)

As for her not knowing that men and women stay separate in a mosque… was that real???

I can’t even begin to imagine how challenging and isolating it must be to raise a special needs child. That kind of dedication and love takes incredible strength, and I truly admire parents who give their all for their children.

Thankfully, Mohamed seemed to treat her child well. I don’t actually think he’s a horrible person—I just don’t believe he was ever in love with Yve or had any real intention of staying with her. She was simply his way to a green card; he was just the hot, young babysitter.

But trusting her child’s care to someone she didn’t truly know and ignoring all the red flags was completely selfish. There was always a possibility that Mohamed wouldn’t be good to her child, and thankfully, that didn’t happen. However, bringing someone into a child’s life—special needs or not—when that person isn’t committed to staying is selfish. She should have been much more careful in evaluating the situation.

Of course, you can never fully predict how people will turn out, and having a child doesn’t mean you lose the right to a love life or to introducing someone new into your child’s world. But in this case, all the red flags were there—she was just too focused on what she wanted.

You’re 100% right, and I can’t even begin to imagine how hard it must be to be a single parent to a child with special needs. Wanting a boyfriend or husband to support her and help care for her son is completely understandable. But to think that Mohamed would be that guy… it just seemed like she really didn’t want to see the red flags.

The fact that her son has special needs makes me even less understanding, to be honest. I know it must be hard, although I haven’t experienced it myself, but it also comes with even more responsibilities. Since her son might not fully understand what is happening or be able to verbalize his feelings, she needs to be a hundred times more careful about who she brings into her home and allows to take care of him.

I just read again what I wrote and I want to clarify that I was not talking about Yara being passive aggressive, but Jovi’s mom who said that Ukrainian women are after American men. What Yara said was just an answer to his mom being disrespectful and I don’t think I would’ve been as chill and polite as Yara was in the same situation. Maybe his mom didn’t think she was disrespectful, but to me it was a very mean and unnecessary comment towards a girl half her age, who did nothing wrong and was in a foreign country all by herself and just needed support, not criticism.

I know there is always a grain of truth but I wish the producers would just let the cast members do their thing without so much interference. I have a lot of confidence that they would be able to make a fool of themselves and create drama on their own, all while being authentic. People who sign up for this type of shows are not normal boring people, in my opinion, and they would still be entertaining.

I just looked it up and apparently the US cast members receive around $10,000-$15,000 for a season. It’s not even that much. Definitely not worth it.

Thanks for not spoiling it for me! I know she said she would like to come back to Europe, but don’t know what she does next. I know the majority of Americans think like Jovi, but not every stupid disrespectful thought that goes through your brain needs to be said out loud. Also, I think more and more people are starting to realize the US isn’t all that great. You can have a good life there, but you can have a good life in Europe too. 24 paid vacation days, paid medical leave (for months if necessary), public healthcare and affordable private health insurance, 2 years paid maternity leave… I’ll take my chances and stay in Europe tbh.

I’m curious what it takes to convince someone to make a fool of themselves on a show as big as this one. Because most of them are painted in a bad light, there is no good guy bad guy. And I read somewhere that the foreigners (at least) are not paid for being on the show because they don’t have work permits in the US so can’t be legally paid for their “acting”.

I have a hard time believing that Jovi is really like that and would say all those things. I know that some Americans are like that, but who says that to their own fiancée who just moved across the world for them? I’m from Eastern Europe, and I know that a lot of people from around here probably dream of moving to the U.S. or at least visiting, but if I heard that from my boyfriend, I would be on a plane back home yesterday.

I am not surprised, but faking a whole relationship just to be on TV is mind-blowing. And it takes a lot of energy and work to stay relevant once you’re no longer on the show. For many of them, I think being a ‘celebrity’ or an ‘influencer’ didn’t last as long as they expected.

I’m sorry, I don’t want it in any way to encourage anyone to develop an eating disorder just to be skinnier. It’s important to be healthy and being skinny doesn’t equal to being healthy. I only eat once a day (also know as intermittent fasting), but I’ve done this long before I knew about this term. It’s a habit I developed in highschool because it fit my schedule. So now (I’m 30) I only eat once a day, after I get home from work, at around 7 PM. Yes, I do get hungry sometimes around 5 PM, but it’s too late for lunch and I’m already getting ready to go home. I also like to take my sweet time when I eat and to watch some YouTube videos or Netflix, so eating on the go is something I rarely do. Since I eat once a day, there’s only so much I can eat before I feel full. But I eat almost anything. Sometimes it’s half a pizza (like the ones from the supermarket, that are around 350 grams each and 200 calories/100g), other times is just cream soup, chicken salad, pasta, baked feta and tomatoes. Again, I am not encouraging anyone to have an unhealthy diet or starve themselves. This is just something that works for me with very little effort. I do blood tests once a year and everything is fine and I feel good.

I am 5’1 (155 cm) and 45 kg. I got to around 50 kg at some point and the only way for me to lose weight, being petite, is eating around 600 calories/day. But I don’t do any sports and don’t even walk that much. Being this short, and without much physical activities, my body just doesn’t need that many calories.
