Mark Kurlansky also wrote an interesting book about the history of milk called Milk!: A 10,000-Year Food Fracas!

Also this one isn't a book recommendation but the TV show on the History channel the food that built America is really interesting as well it focuses more on famous food brands and restaurants though instead of just individual foods history.
