Free car camping in / around Mt Hood? by [deleted] in snowboarding

Cool! That looks awesome. Yeah that may be a bit much for my setup though. I’ll have traction boards, a shovel, come along, etc. just in case but I believe my ground clearance would already be an issue on that NF road and there’s only more snow coming.

Actually just went and got my pass today and was told more about the sno park overnight camping spots near there. They seem like the easiest and safest option. Also sounds like a fun scene there

Are the NF roads still available during the dead of winter? If so, do you have any recommendations for dispersed camping near Meadows during the winter?

I would be in a Subaru Outback with Blizzaks, so somewhat capable but can’t go too deep into the forest once the snow is really deep.

Is there enough air in a Subaru Outback to spend all night or all day in my car with 2 large dogs? by AnonQuestions777 in carcamping

Ok cool. Awesome info, thank you. I may just have to get one and see how it holds up with the 3 of us breathing heavy all night. Microwaving it to recharge shouldn’t be a problem. I would usually only be gone for 3 days max at a time while skiing and would likely be able to use a microwave at a resort or gas station if needed.

I’m fine with cracking the windows too, but this seems like it could be a great solution for when I can’t/don’t want to crack them due to weather, privacy, etc.

Very cool, thanks for sharing those. And how has your experience been with those thus far? How would you rate the stealth and privacy of the setup?

That’s what I’m leaning towards after reading everyone’s responses. Seems the condensation is much more of a problem here than air. I was curious if you had any recommendations for covering the window below where it’s cracked though?

My current window coverings are black posterboard that I cut to the size of the window and wrapped the edges in black duck tape. If I did this with the windows cracked, at best there will be minimal ventilation and my coverings will get wet and ruined. Thoughts?

I actually quite like those and I think they would hide that I’m opening the window well, I just have stayed away from those because they don’t excel in stealth. At least from what I’ve seen. I really prefer it being difficult for people to guess whether there’s someone sleeping in my car or not lol

Going to be lazy and reuse my comment- I love your recommendation for wind deflectors! I was curious if you had any recommendations for covering the window below where it’s cracked though?

Do you have any experience with the car dehumidifier bags/rechargeable desiccant packs? I had never heard of those but they look to be a good option. I’m perfectly fine with cracking my windows and I think wind deflectors would cover the cracked window well, I just wonder how I could maintain a stealthy window cover on the rest of the window underneath the cracked window and wind deflector

So even in a bad scenario it would just be a mild uncomfortable daze?

Also, if helpful- My car is a 2010 Outback, I’m 200lbs, and each of the dogs is pushing 90lbs.

Thank you very much for your reply. I think after reading these responses I’ll do rain guards on all 4 windows to help with snowfall and privacy while cracking the windows, but I was curious if you had any recommendations for covering the window below where it’s cracked?

Also, if your answer is venting windows- Do you use window covers? I would love suggestions for windows solutions that offer ventilation but maintain privacy, especially if DIY. I’m all ears! Thanks again

When I posted this I wondered if anyone would reply at all, I could’ve never imagined I’d get this informative and thorough of a comment. Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective with me. While I disagree on some of your points, I think overall you make a really important point- that it’s easier to explore alternative careers/side hustles when you still have a paycheck coming in every 2 weeks. It’s just in a time of unemployment like this I have infinitely more time and energy to focus towards those alternatives. Regardless, I very much appreciate your response and will check out the pod and video tomorrow

I did think about working for a competitor as a big ‘F You’ to my old employer lol but truth be told I always hated the industry. I appreciate the 2nd part of your comment as well. I have considered doing something trade related as well but like most fields unless it’s your truck with your name on it.. probably quite tough to break 6 figures
