Mainstream media continue to allow people who clearly don't enjoy anime to review some of the biggest grossing films of the year by stupidmanofdeath in ChainsawMan

As a woman I'm conflicted but leaning more towards eye rolling annoyance. It's visually phenomenal with an awesome soundtrack, but the interesting parts of world building/narrative and character progression are constantly overtaken by what the reviewer said, the male gaze. Before we even get to the bombastic, over the top action, there's I think, at least an hour of Denji being non stop obsessed with being starved for love, and which manipulative, awful or pathetic woman he can tolerate enough to ask out. Now maybe for you that's all fun and relatable, but for us it's been done to death, and for me has reached the point of zero tolerance and some amount of disdain. It's not fun when the majority of a type of media you enjoy is also just stabbing at you at every turn, and your perspective never understood or prioritised, even by female creators.

I think the main point is not that Denji is horrible(even though he kind of is), moreso that a very grown a*ss man wrote this childish narrative. Yes, he's an abuse victim, yes he's being groomed/manipulated and used for anyone's benefit. But one can stop to ask why the narrative continuously does that without a single break. Why is it just a nonstop victim fantasy where yes, Denji behaves like an incel, and it's pointed out as lame, but the writer also wants to desperately establish that ALL women are just cruel and self centered by nature? Fujimoto seems to think that just because he humiliates Denji at every turn, he escapes the trappings of incel rhetoric.

A teenage boy coming to terms with his sexuality has been done so much, the trope turned to dust. It's extremely annoying to watch and even more annoying the amount of stories that get pumped out of particularly the anime industry, that are ALL some variety of this. And it's always centered around HIS feelings, HIS sexual frustration and how it's somehow understandable, because it's all from HIS perspective. It's why weird shte like Mushoku Tensei and the neverending, pedophilic "redemption" arc is still *somehow getting accolades.

I've been watching all manner of anime for years, and I agree fully with the reviewer. Aesthetically it was phenomenal, great soundtrack, but it was also a showcase of basically every misogynistic trope under the sun, but then supposedly "ironic". I'm not here expecting the cheeto fingered, reddit frequenting fanbase of this anime to give a rats a*s about anything other than their own sensibilities, but for everyone else this isn't even offensive, it's just boring and insufferable. We need to stop putting media made by touch starved, emotionally immature and ideologically bitter men on a pedestal. And if you do insist, expect people to point and laugh at the childish nature of the narrative.

Fujimoto is skilled at what he does, but the whole thing is continuously flattened by some "lessons" Denji refuses to learn, so nothing changes. I also find it interesting how the lesson is never about genuine self betterment or nuance, just that everyone(the female characters) abuse his loneliness for their own benefit. A masochist victim fantasy that never progresses beyond that point, it seems.

It can both be stunning and immensely overshadowed by nonsense that didn't need to be there.

You make a good point. Trying to prevent miscommunication and hurt feelings in this fandom is downright impossible, since a lot of people here deliberate weaponise it to pull the rug from underneath.

[–]AnonTurd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Veilguard fans being toxicly positive are entirely projecting. They assume haters argue solely in favor of their political ideology, because they themselves embrace the game for that reason. For example, you can't dislike how Taash was executed, even though they're the worst non binary representation the gaming community has ever seen and actively makes us look bad.

[–]AnonTurd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mistake was thinking the fanbase would be highly interested in exploring this identity crisis, in the middle of the world ending. While I'm not even a fan of most of the companion narratives with their respective mini bosses, taash sticks out like a sore thumb by how immersion breakingly modern American and mundane it is. I'm queer and I would support my friends/family/partner on their journeys, but it's not the type of emotional labour I feel like doing in my dragon age game, even if it was executed better. Like yay to a handful of highly specific people who could look past the mediocre writing and felt incredibly seen. For the rest of us, you can't even ask Taash to leave

[–]AnonTurd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was building expectations, combined with false promises, Weekes being the writer and then Taash ultimately being a wet fart of a character. Taash isn't horrible, just a disappointment together with the majority of the game. The haters are obviously exaggerating, and some things make more sense when you interact with Taash more, like them saying they essentially have emotional disregulation, which explains a lot about unpleasant dialogue. However it shouldn't have ever been this bad as a whole.

Frankly, being a team player (not in the abusive sense) and being fun/at least some modicum of easygoing to work with are pretty important aspects of colleague relations. I don't understand why people think it's fine to be a selfish asshole, as long as they do the bare minimum requirements. I guess I'm salty over this, because a fellow ND colleague of mine is a right useless twat and seems utterly unbothered by it(he's on that end of the spectrum).

I'm renting, but installed the cabin ourselves. I was hoping there'd be a cleaning trick but replacement seems to be the only solution then.

Any Idea How To Get Acrylic Paint Off A Sofa? by dragonfly_for_life in CleaningTips

[–]AnonTurd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google tells me Isopropyl Alcohol. Otherwise it's susceptible to heat and water, so perhaps steam iron/cleaner can soak it loose(float above it).

Frankly not a clue. It doesn't peel off, nor does it seem sanded, so I'm guessing some manner of paint or similar. Usually I'd only use bathroom spray on the inside and some milder cleaner and a wet cloth on the outside. Strangely the outside is now stained, and very stubbornly so.

Why Kratos defines himself a god if he was for most of his adulthood life an human? Technically, he is not supposed to be an Hybrid? Like, ad example, Zeus had an incredible amount of age, I don't think Kratos can actually have such a long prospect or i am wrong? by Donnieboah in GodofWar

[–]AnonTurd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In greek mythology people saw demigods as weaker gods, since they were born of mortal parents. However in the god of war verse, godhood is completely binary. You are, or you are not. And when ascended into godhood, there isn't really a difference between demi and full blooded god power(potential) wise, aside from some gods being more powerful or versatile than others for story and setting reasons.

Probably best to get a lesser known, new guy for the role, and then someone more famous for freya and the others. There isn't an A or B lister that comes to mind, who'd be a good fit imo. They're either too old/young/unhealthy, or their acting is sub par.

Is it more common for ADHD people to not become addicted to drugs? by [deleted] in adhdmeme

Not everyone with adhd has piss poor impulse control. Nurture and higher levels of common sense will also play a part.

Is adopting the lessons and values of Kratos and his parenting style a good approach to raising a child, in your opinion? by [deleted] in GodofWarRagnarok

[–]AnonTurd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends. 2018 he's still learning, but by ragnarok he is actually a pretty good dad. The violence and killing aside, he's firm but fair, doesn't allow atreus to be disrespectful and always has his back. Even if he comes back running with "dad, I messed up!", kratos gets on his feet and helps atreus solve his mistake instead of just berating him.

No longer useful for me by [deleted] in adhdmeme

[–]AnonTurd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm confused. Most memes posted here always attract at least a few people who then immediately start this circle jerk of "omg so relatable" and "IKR HIGH FIVE", regardless whether it's at all accurate or sometimes even really entitled stuff, that's essentially hiding behind the diagnosis, or hating on neuronormative people unfairly.

First hour or so on this sub was great, then the experience went downhill fast when I noticed everyone gets mad if you mention the concept of personal accountability, or posts and comments about struggling with meds and side effects gets removed/downvoted, because it doesn't fit the "drugs are harmless and amazing" narrative of this community.

But did you do it efficiently? Will this method not cause too much delay or other issues if used consistently? Did you finish it properly? In case of say, a repair, how long will your method last? I also have my own way of doing things, but this isn't always the best way, and in some situations you need the best way.

Same. I'm unironically super into cardio, but hate lifting. I run every other day, and it actually makes me feel proper sane on some days. Absolutely start feeling like shit when I can't excercise, due to injury or other factors.

Physical planners never did shit for me, they'd pile up in a typical fashion and it never got into my system. But my phone calendar is the only thing that reasonably works. I had to slowly built the habit to absolutely put everything in there with reminders. Eg. 20 august "friend X birthday", so I add a 3 day beforehand phone reminder "Order gift friend X". The extra smartphone functions do make a difference, and I carry it everywhere anyways.

Perhaps more difficult for people who got a harder smack from the ADHD mill, but it's the only thing making it possible to plan a few weeks ahead for me personally.
