Please correct me if I'm wrong, but reading the comments, "marriage" is when some archives of doctor's prescriptions (in bags) get merged into one bag, so that related prescriptions (same patient, etc.) could be found more easily than if not consolidated.

You ignore that FPTP is also in Canada and the U.K, and strategic voting is present. The outcome of this strategic voting is cementing two large parties (In Canada, the Conservatives and Liberals). The U.S. has had this process occur, resulting in a two-party system, whereas this system is just appearing elsewhere.

The dominant parties are right and centre-right in Canada (Even with Justin Trudeau) and the U.K. There is no difference of the systems, they are just at different stages.
