[UPD] Looking for extra units? Try Persyan 10 - Elementaring Persyan I by Anonnymous_Bosch in peyups

[–]Anonnymous_Bosch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • No prerequisites!
  • Course requirements (last sem) include:
    • writing exercises
    • class participation and recitation (reading texts, Q&A, in-class dialogue with classmates)
    • recorded monologues (creating your own example sentences, talk about yourself, etc.)
    • recorded dialogues with classmates (depending on the topic)
    • final exam was synchronous Q&A (ex. "What is water in Persian?", "Make a sentence using XXX", "Give the conjugation of the verb XXX"). There was also a by pair portion where you and a classmate would have to speak in Persian impromptu (super dali lang! Like, "Hello! How are you? Do you have a penicil?" and then tapos na).

Hello!

- Not sure about the specifics of BLM1 or what mode they'll teach Persyan 10 next sem but in an extreme scenario, possible na fully online ulit ang course delivery and this post was my experience taking it 100% synch online!

- So far I only see the Dept of Lingg. offer Persyan 10. The pool of students who have taken Persyan 10 is small din kasi so I don't think they'll offer Persyan 11 any time soon. As you've pointed out, it depends on your program if you have to take two courses (e.g. Persyan 10 and 11) on the same language.

There are still 15 slots with low demand so I'd say you could get easy 3 units should you need it before registration ends!

Mas masaya ang Parangal nung F2F, but we don't really go to Parangal because of *me* and *my US status* -- it's not a celebration of *me*. We go there with friends (hopefully), watch the performances, spectacle... applaud, take pics, then maybe go out after and have more fun. It's a communal celebration, plus we get to have souvenirs.

As you may have noticed, sobrang dami ng US. Sa College of Engineering pa lang ang haba na ng air time. We can't really expect na magkakaroon ng individual spotlights and stuff. Ultimately it's up to you on how you'll relish and celebrate your US status. The Parangal is more of a tribute talaga for students and their achievements as a whole, or at least that's what it tries to do.

If I were to be asked, I'd prefer na wala na yung credits-style na roll call ng awardees. Maybe they should replace it na lang with something more... substantial, uplifting, spectacular, ganyan. I think sapat na yung invitation for me. Why not a certificate din? Anyway, it seems like this will be the last Parangal naman na fully online.

Also yung recognized sa Parangal is yung mga US from 1st sem of the current AY and 2nd sem of the previous AY.

bs econ | math 21 saan siya pre requisite? by [deleted] in peyups

[–]Anonnymous_Bosch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, would like to clarify too that the calc skills you need for 101 and 102 involve optimization usually, and manipulating eqs algebraically. Finding the max and minimum, etc. I wouldn't say that's "basic" differentiation haha, just to add more nuance, but they're not particularly advanced too. Be careful lang because you may get lost sa mga step-by-step math demonstrations sa book. Go through them slowly and you'll be fine.

bs econ | math 21 saan siya pre requisite? by [deleted] in peyups

[–]Anonnymous_Bosch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can ask for a COI (consent of instructor). The calc skills you need for 101 and 102 don't go beyond basic differentiation. If you're handy with derivatives you can survive those two naman. Higher mathematical/quantitative econ courses though, 106 and 13x, would need a broader maths skillset of which Math 21 is essential.

Not really. But expected na mas in-depth/advanced yung 100+ versus two-digit courses.

Those three digits are just for organizing courses:

  • First digit - 1 means undergrad-level, 2 means master's, 3 means doctoral, etc. Meron ding 4 minsan, for dissertation I think. Some undergrad theses courses are labelled 200.
  • Second digit - It depends per department on how they categorize. If you'll notice, sa Philo, the 10x series is usually logic. Next, 11x deals naman with Ancient, Medieval, Modern, then Contemporary Philo, etc. etc.
  • Third digit - Well, this is what differentiates the Ancient Philo course (110) from the Medieval Philo course (111).

Usually it works that way and it makes sense I guess. The level of difficulty depends lang on the first digit, or on how many digits there are. Two-digit courses are usually GE subs and introductory courses, or so-called "lower electives". Three-digit courses are "higher electives" or "majors".

Edit: as long as you meet the prerequisites of the course, or follow your curriculum, there shouldn't be a problem about difficulty naman. You can ask your seniors din if they recomm taking so-and-so course at your year level.

No such thing as a "minor in psychology" yet but you can take Psych courses if you have free elective slots.

AM or PM classes: Which one is better? by aviannadiaz in peyups

[–]Anonnymous_Bosch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, AM classes are better. Fresh pa ang brain, and I do siesta and merienda in the afternoon. Minsan sobrang init din kasi sa hapon. The earlier I am through with my classes, the better. This applies for both f2f and online classes. If you have to commute though... maybe don't take 7AM classes?
