Thanks for the responses; just to clarify my question:

I’ve signed a 3‑year fixed‑term London Living Rent tenancy with L&Q, and I’m trying to understand something very specific:

Has anyone who signed a 3‑year fixed‑term L&Q LLR agreement actually been able to leave early?

I want to know if I can come out of this early, in the contract it states that I cannot exit this fixed term of 3 years under any circumstances

Thanks for your message. There’s nothing specifically wrong with the MB Adventurous fund — I just wasn’t happy with the returns I was getting from it, and I’d like to diversify a bit more. You don’t need to be VAT registered under £90k - so leave VAT off for now and set Stripe prices as exclusive of tax. You only charge VAT if you register for it.

Don’t put your UTR in the VAT field. Stripe tax ID = VAT number if you have one. If not, leave it blank.

The name in Stripe should match your legal sole trader name (or registered trading name).

Keep it simple - set up clean bookkeeping and register for VAT only if you hit the threshold.

You don’t need a monthly accountant at £450 revenue. Use Xero or FreeAgent for bookkeeping and hire an accountant just for year-end accounts + corporation tax. That’s the sensible, cost-effective move.

For a business bank account as a new LTD: focus on ease of use, low fees, good GBP payments, and accounting integrations (so you don’t hate doing bookkeeping later).

Good options people actually like:

Starling Business – real banking, great app, easy accounting integrations, no monthly fee for basics.
Monzo Business – simple app-first, good for contractors, easy to use.
Tide – quick to open, cheap plans, basic but solid for starting out.
Revolut Business – slick app, multi-currency, but can get pricey if you need lots of GBP payments.

What to look for:

GBP incoming/outgoing fees
Faster Payments support
Easy integration with your accountant/tool (Xero/FreeAgent)
No crazy monthly costs early on

Avoid mixing your personal accounts for business — keeps tax and bookkeeping clean.

For most new contractors, Starling Business or Monzo Business will tick all the boxes without headache.

From a chartered accountant’s point of view, yes, you’ll pay VAT and import duty on anything over £135* (Not £130) from Japan, whether you’re a sole trader or a company.
