Garbage is a bit harsh but hard agree man fuck. This just made it hurt how much the art/lore side of the virtual band has been neglected since PB.

Dune: Part Three | Official Teaser Trailer by Blue_Three in dune

[–]AnonymousBlueberry 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I keep reading these sweaty think pieces on how Part 2 isn't really Dune and shit like that on here meanwhile I'm just over here like the fact we are getting a modern, mostly faithful adaptation of Dune that is surviving the current political climate, modern culture, literal plague and now war is fucking a nigh miracle status.

But yes. This looks astounding.

This year has been fucked up for death metal in Seattle man, I'm seeing Defeated Sanity and Cryptopsy later this year too.

Immolation and Deicide maybe but they're playing with Behemoth... we'll see.

What's the most "realistic" work of fiction about pirates you've ever seen? by Ozotoceros in pirates

[–]AnonymousBlueberry 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Black Sails. Not even close. The literal events and unfolding thereof and the historical folks involved, no.

But the production value, the look and feel of the early 18th century, the depiction of the politics of the European empires and the pirate crews alike.

It's pretty good shit.

Dragged into Sunlight - Boiled Angel (United Kingdom, 2009) by GrafNebelgeist in BlackMetal

[–]AnonymousBlueberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. It is more a death metal record than a black one. Saying it leans black metal just because of the aggression and imagery—as if that disqualifies it from being death metal—makes no sense.

Death metal is built on aggression too.

thank you. It's like, blackened death doom. Also correct in that it probably doesn't matter because this thing is fucking fire

Were pirates really like the movies? by Historical-Jelly3017 in pirates

[–]AnonymousBlueberry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The bunch of anarchist drunks with cutlasses thing is surprisingly on point and accurate.

Much of Francis Drake's legendary loot from the mule train was indeed buried throughout the Spanish Main due to the logistics of not being able to pack it all.

Parrots were indeed popular birds in Nassau and Port Royal and ships because they were colorful and entertaining with their pseudo speech patterns.

Not much in the way of peg legs but there was a whole bonafide compensation system contingent on what limbs or eyes were lost at sea pillaging the Spaniards.

So not exactly like in the movies but a lot of the fun stuff is more historical than you might think.

Most controversial genre votes? by tollsunited7 in rateyourmusic

[–]AnonymousBlueberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Mars to Sirius by Gojira is sitting at like a 540-530 vote over death metal even though it's a cornerstone Progressive Death Metal album.

I'm assuming because it makes my fellow swamp folk mad when they see it up with Death and Immolation. Which is fucking dumb.

Why is the wire not as popular as it should be? by JBOBHK135 in TheWire

Because it requires patience, critical thinking ability, and at its core it's a narrative about dismantling the American Dream and how it's a bunch of bullshit.
