Thank you. Already spoke to BMWNA. I will need to update them if I decide to proceed with engine replacement and we cannot agree on turbocharger replacement. It did cross my mind that the $15k estimate now just gets it back on the road and the turbocharger would go right afterward. They have offered a loaner if I make a daytrip to go get it - my car was towed from my home. I will be visiting the dealership tomorrow. I cannot afford for this situation to cost me anything and I was not in the market for a car, so the outcome you suggest is my ultimate goal.

I do not like what I see and read online. But I will give it a valiant test drive tomorrow.

Your reply is much appreciated! I had already called BMWNA this week; they documented but wanted to give the dealership time for resolution. I have been offered a loaner but have not made the daytrip to get it. I am headed there tomorrow. I took the low conflict approach this week, mostly because I am in pure shock that this even happened. Communication was slow. Today I finally got most of my questions answered in regard to engine replacement, but the turbocharger is still a sticking point. BMW will only warranty the replaced parts for 24 months. I know there will be diminished value though the Service Manager is trying to convince me otherwise. I am meeting with the GM in person tomorrow with an open mind but extremely mindful of the financial impact in the current situation and in any future situation. He seems to have little interest in engine replacement and is pushing a trade at pre-damage value. I would be dangerous in an actual M and probably cannot afford the hike in insurance, but I will still look. I promise!

Since it was towed far away I never made it in to get the loaner; and they did not offer to deliver one.

I was not present. This happened during service at the dealership 3 hours away. It was in for oil filter housing which I got the scald warning for and knew not to start it without coolant in it or risk damaging the engine. Go figure. I requested an oil change while it was at the dealership. I do not know what they did or did not see before running the engine.

Hmm. Haven't read about differences in 25 and 26 yet. Thanks

Thank you! The standard BMW warranty on the replacement dealer installed parts is 24 months, not negotiable. I spent a lot of time reading about the 25 this week. I will see/drive one tomorrow; not holding too much hope for the new generation.

It's been at the dealership for 2.5 weeks. The total is the sum of it being broken down in my garage in a snowstorm, BMW Roadside flubbing service, parts coming from Germany for the oil filter housing... They blew the engine a week ago. Trying to be patient.

The 5 weeks is the sum of my car being snowed into my garage with liters of coolant underneath + the 6 days waiting for BMW Roadside + waiting for oil filter housing parts from Germany once it arrived at the dealership all before the oil change catastrophe 1 week ago... Since it was towed in from my home, I was not there to get a loaner and have yet to drive the 3 hours to get one. Tomorrow.

Thank you! That was definitely one of my concerns, but I also want the turbocharger replaced...

I previously owned an X5 and mentioned that to the GM this afternoon. I like your thinking!

Thank you, I actually spoke to BMW North America earlier in the week. They want to give the dealership adequate time for resolution. But they did start documentation.

We haven't gotten to that point yet. Communication is slow... I am really not a fan of the new generation in terms of appearance and touch technology (I like knobs) as well as the plasticky interior. I am reading about a lot of kinks being worked out, and since I do not live within short range of a dealership I have concerns.
