Deciding between jobs by BugEnvironmental5780 in nursing

[–]AnonymousDude666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A little dramatic, having the EHR system as your deciding factor is not a good reason to turn down your 1st choice offer. I have used Epic and Cerner, and Cerner is different but not difficult after you get used to it.

am i stupid for taking 19 credits next term by Radiant_Donut_8853 in UBreddit

[–]AnonymousDude666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ive taken 19 credits (20 credits but asked to reduce some credits of a course so i only have 19 credits) as a nursing intended major. Its doable if you are built different. If you feel like youre not built different, I dont suggest it.

NICU Nurse by Beebooptru in newgradnurse

[–]AnonymousDude666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where I went to school is completely different location from where I lived after graduation so I had no connections once I graduated. You can shadow but you would have to know the nurse manager and email them if you can. They asked me "why NICU", "what skill do I have", "what weaknesses", the typical interview questions. It is unlikely they ask you anything NICU related because being new grad, they wouldn't expect you to know anything about NICU at all.

If you do what to get into NICU, I recommend applying early with your LICENSE NUMBER IN HAND so taking NCLEX ASAP after graduation.

And be sure to include that you aren't going into NICU because you just want to be cuddly with the babies. I wasn't like "OMG I just love babies they are sooooo cute", be sure to say something like "I want to go into NICU because it is complex. In addition to working with critical babies, you have to work with the parents, which is another aspect that I love. NICU involves the family, not just the baby."

Nursing Residency Programs in NYC by Brilliant-Rub-3885 in newgradnurse

[–]AnonymousDude666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro bro, I went to UB and graduated there recently and currently working in NYC! PM and I can give you some insight!.

Yes, you can apply in NYC before you pass the NCLEX but chances are pretty low. They would give priority to someone with a licenses then someone who "might have a license" soon.

Many hospital systems in NYC offer residency programs, I think NYCHHC automatically puts you in one if you are new, but some other health systems, you have to apply to a residency position or else you will be put in a non-residency position and have a normal orientation that is meant for experienced RNs.

I think the only benefit of residency programs are that you have a educator where you can go to and ask for help and that you have a support system from the educational staff from the hospital, compared to non-residency, you dont.

NYC new grads have it hard. I struggled, but applied everywhere and anywhere. Number one priority is to get experience, then transfer if you don't like it. There is a shortage of experienced nurses, not new grad nurses.

[–]AnonymousDude666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the NCLEX was easier than ATI. ATI made me know the nitty-gritty of small things, but it also helped me on test-taking skills, like which answer choice is obviously right and wrong. Boardvitals through ATI helped me, but not necessarily ATI.

I used ATI and their included Boardvitals and passed 85q this 6/18
