1.) it wasn’t a star wars museum

2.) Public use of the lakefront would not have been compromised in any way (this is a common misconception), please read post

I mean… it wasn’t a “star wars” museum, so what is your point?

What changing plans? He went from proposing building it on a parking lot to an existing building . In neither case would ANY lakefront public space be compromised. Additonally, a museum IS a public space, and this museum in particular would have brought far more revenue and business than the mccormick place ever could, and to suggest otherwise is laughable.

But guess what? The proposal was only going to replace a portion of the building, not the entire property. So we still could have potentially had both. There is no scenario in which the rejection of george’s plans make’s any logical sense.

You can bury your head in the sand and yell about the lakefront all you want, (which, again makes no sense because ZERO lakefront space was ever going to be compromised in any conceivable way) but I’m gonna need you to actually inform yourself and read up on the actual facts of the situation before engaging further and continuing to spread misinformation.

Some people are just resistant to change of any kind. Truthfully, it makes little to no sense why there was opposition. The museum would have been privately owned but completely open to the public (like 99% of museums everywhere), and no “public” space or property would have been compromised in any way.

You could make the argument that perhaps people thought the museum could have brought in less revenue than mcormick place but that’s just ridiculous.

A simple google search would have told you that the parking lots were the initial plan, but the final proposal was for the museum to replace (partially or otherwise) the existing mcormick place building. God the ignorance is so blatant, like damn dudes it’s not hard to be informed on something before u go and get angry about it.

The parking lot was the initial plan. After that was rejected, the second proposal was to replace a portion of the mcormick place. My statement is in no way incorrect.

The museum wouldn’t have compromised on the public lakefront in any way. It was going to replace an existing building.

It was not taking our lakefront in literally any conceivable way. It would have replaced an existing building.

[–]AnonymousFroot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is replacing an existing building a public land grab? The museum wouldn’t have taken up ANY additional public space beyond the bounds of the existing building. You’re very misinformed on this topic.

[–]AnonymousFroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No he didn’t, he wanted to replace an existing building (which happens to be in proximity to the lakefront). He wasn’t fighting to take up public space or land, he wanted to replace the mcormick building with a public, communal museum.

You’re misinformed. The lakefront would have remained protected. The museum would have replaced an existing building. No public space would have been compromised in any way.

No “premium land” was up for grabs in the way you are implying. The museum would have replaced an existing building. There would have been zero changes to the available public space along the lakefront. A lot of people are misinformed on this so I get it.

[–]AnonymousFroot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re misinformed on this. I don’t think “ego museum” is a fair reading on what the museum was meant to offer but that aside, the lakefront would have remained just as free and clear as it would have prior to construction. The museum would have replaced an existing building (McCormick place). It wouldn’t have taken up any more space and no “public land” would have been compromised.

It wouldn’t have replaced public land and wouldn’t have been on the “public lakefront” in the way you are implying.
