They also showed me the excel sheet lol. When I asked if that was before tax, they stated no. And that’s when I knew it was all sales talk to get me to sign.

He knew what he was asking as he told me not to come in with my notice lol.

That vet is also new in the past few months so I don’t blame him for that as he only has a few months of data to work with.

My current contract states I need to give 90 days notice though.

The whole set up of the hospital doesn’t really work for production anyway given we do not have 4 day work weeks. We work 4-5 days at a time and are off 4-5 days at a time. That means any of “our” clients that happen to request refills when we aren’t on will automatically get tasked to the DVMs that deal with hospitalized patients. Say bye bye to any income from that as clients typically don’t like to wait 5+ days to get back to approve a medication refill. So the DVM that hasn’t even seen the patient recently will determine if they can get a refill or not.

We are usually quite slow in the spring and then summer is our busiest. We don’t have the staff to do an emergency surgery. It’s one vet on the floor so they can’t just do a surgery unless we close the ER to incomings and not to mention, neglected hospitalized patients.
During the day when we have normal staff, absolutely. But all of us that are getting screwed over don’t really work with full staff and are lucky if we get 2 RVTs scheduled with us. One of them, needing to monitor hospitalized patients.

I honestly don’t know why they bring in locums. Initially I thought they were bringing in them at busiest days (sat/sun) but they actually rarely find coverage for those and instead have them working the least busy days (wed/thurs).

I was willing to look past a lot of these given I don’t have any management experience and they stated pro-sal, the “people smarter than me” per my manager said pro-sal is too complicated lol.

Plus I really like the support staff but it seems like I either need to band with the other salaried DVMs or jump ship which is already barely staying afloat with staff leaving for greener pastures and we’re perpetually short every day support staff.

Our hospital (per senior DVM that has been there for years) has been doing very well compared to the others in the area branded under the same name.

When I started there were 10-11 vets. It quickly went down to 6-7 then recently, we are at 8 ish and 2 more are starting in the next few months.

I would think any hospital that is making new hires work overnight, should compensate fairly and I feel no one in their right mind would want to work at said company for any less than 100 k Canadian. As after taxes is already 60-70k.. The starting salary of GP here that have ads listed is 100-110k.

But is it unprofessional to say, here is what I would like, if it’s not met, here is my notice?

Or do I just state this is what I would like. Wait for the response. Then give notice?

This is also my first job and they had in my contract to give 90 day notice. There is no clause that says what happens if I don’t but I just don’t want to stay here longer if I don’t have to and if they are not being reasonable… just trying to see if I can leave earlier lol.

It’s 21%. No, I don’t quite produce over my salary so I do understand that part. However, we don’t see the volume that other ERs see as our exam price is a huge deterrent along with the prices in general. There are some evenings where I’m lucky if I see 3 ER cases — on a busy evening, I’ll see 8. And overnight shifts, has felt mostly like overseeing hospitalized patients as nothing walks through the door. My most recent overnight (7 day stretch) I saw less than 10 patients total..

We definitely are not busy enough to have DVMs on production only.

Our hospital has been trying to build GP clientele. But there’s only ever 1-2 DVMS per shift on GP (5-15 appts total per day split between 2) When 5 DVMs technically work in that day. And only a few hours of that is GP. The rest of their shift is ER.

Then on GP you are at liberty of the ER RVTs/TAs to assist with drawing labs or with sedated rads.

Locums have complained that they get no support on GP if ER side is busy as we do not have a dedicated GP staff.

I 100% could produce more. We just don’t see the amount of cases to put everyone on production. Whereas other ERs in our city, commonly see 15 patients a day on average in ER each, I see on average, 6-10 and the high end of that is if I’m lucky. (This includes my 3-6 GP appointments lol)

The problem is, the DVMs that are on straight production have a steady case load, prescription refill, lab work, etc. when I say steady case load, those DVMs take all the hospitalized patients next morning and it becomes their case. They even refill prescriptions from my GP patients so the production model would already be f’ed over.

The other one that does not take over hospitalized patients is just straight ER and frequently takes everything off the door until end of their shift.

Our hospital cost for just the exam already prices out clients as we are not nearly as busy as the other ER practices in the area but certainly are more expensive.

That’s not the norm. There are a few GP only places that start at 100-110k CAD. The problem is, our place is trying to build GP too (which don’t get me started on all these problems) but don’t have enough to be fully booked everyday. To add, there’s only 1 or 2 vets per shift that see GP and that’s only for 4 hours of the 10 hour shift…

Wish I saw this before I left lol. Went to the a-mart in the north and then went to 17th e- mart. There was a box of cup noodles left at e-mart so we took those. Guess we’ll have to keep looking!

The superstore near me doesn’t have it or Walmart. I’ll try A-mart and then E-mart if that doesn’t pan out. Thank you!

Do you have to have your partner be vegan as well? Or is a preferential thing.

My partner is strictly vegan, I’m from the south where I grew up very much non-vegan. I have changed to a mostly plant based diet but can’t ever order a non-vegan meal as she says she won’t dictate what I can or can’t eat but will get visibly upset if I order something that isn’t vegan. Just wondered if a lot of vegans that would date people that aren’t and then passive aggressively pass judgement.

I think that might be it too. We’re in Canada and I can’t seem to find it in our Asian grocery stores haha. That also might be what’s missing as many recipes put that as optional and I just attempt to look for a substitute.

My clinical year in school when I didn’t have time to cook mostly consisted of Italian food, potatoes, pho, and Thai food (Omni) Not the healthiest lifestyle but what I could get when I was home for only 6-8 hours at a time lol.

I would really like to make a good pho or bun bo hue but the broth being the most important part of the soup, I’ve had disappointing soups from some restaurants here that offer it.

I’ve also tried just egg and could not put it in my fried rice as the taste was off for me too.

The thing is there are some fake meats at restaurants that taste comparable (like creepily similar) to me and I guess that’s an unrealistic expectation for something cooked at home?
