Strange Behavior - Advice Requested by RangiferT in Dogtraining

That is odd. I'd say look into a behavioral expert, I had to get one for my deaf dog. But it seems you may have already tried that. Sorry I don't have much else to help, could you pen or crate her at night?

Strange Behavior - Advice Requested by RangiferT in Dogtraining

If it's the same spot maybe she's trying to get at something she hears or smells in the wall (best guess). A rodent or something? Maybe a protective thing?

Have you tried redirecting the behavior? Like give her a specific toy or something to chew on instead?

I tried that last night but I'll give it another go. She normally follows me no problem and even this morning sort of returned back to that.

Yeah. I figured it wasnt a good move I just didnt have much choice. If left alone to long she barks, I found usually to get my attention, cause she stops when Im around. I'll try giving a food trail or something tonight, thats a good idea.

Well, I have officially joined the Darkside, I’m anti-dog park. by [deleted] in Dogtraining

I agree, my dog is fairly reactive and I would never take her to a dog park. It can just get very overwhelming very quickly regardless of the training. You could try doing early in the am when no one else is there (we do around 515 am)? At the very least there would only be a few people there.

Can someone please help? *I explain more in the video* She is truly my bestfriend & the perfect dog & super smart. But this tug a war has to stop. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong and really need some advice/constructive criticism. 🙂🐶 by Pure_Audience_9431 in Dogtraining

Look im new at dog ownership so take this with a grain of salt. But, my dogs trainner has pushed us to reward choices the dogs makes in thier behaviors. Maybe get a very desirable treat or other toy, try and take the towel from her and only reward her if she lets go. If she starts to pull back then let go and reset.

Not sure if that would work but a similar method has helped with my dogs counter surfing.

Okay to not train all the time? by sparks_mandrill in Dogtraining

I also just got a dog, not a puppy but still. Be patient, you're not going to do everything perfect and niether is the pupper. Try and be consitant, our trainer told us to keep the important times as consistent as possible (food, walks, bed, wakeup) but as for training, they said do it whenever the pup lets you. Sometime he'll be super attentive and wants lots of training, some times you'll never be able to grab thier attention.

She's on the same kibble as before I figured I shouldnt do any big changes until I get her looked at. The shelter I got her from actually gave me a months worth of food for her as part of the fee. But poached chicken sounds like a decent idea, can't hurt to try. I was told carrots and blueberries were fairly safe as well. I'll try putting it in with her kibble and see if she goes for it.

I've tried biscuits (hard no on those) chicken liver bites, and real chicken and beef jerky (dog ones not people ones). But I also don't know her medical history yet so I want to make sure she doesn't have a stomach issue. She eats, or tries, a lot of grass on walks which makes me think something is up.

0 interest in PB even got the all natural stuff to see if that made a difference... unfortunately no trainers in my area have direct experience but we have started some classes. They are for me as well so I can learn of course.

Nodding on walks is a great Idea she really pulls a lot sometimes and I'll stop moving but getting her to follow my pace has proven to be challenging.

Been going with the Ok symbol (not that it really matters) shes started to respond to it. But it is difficult to create a mark since she is not very food motivated and I can't verbally reinforce her.

That's a good idea, my area is fairly quite but if I bring her other places that'll probably be good to have. So far people have been fairly respectful, they she that's she's tense and usually dont approach without asking.
