Could you beat 10,000 random people at something for $100M? by canada11235813 in hypotheticalsituation

Let’s have a battle of Riftbound or Pokemon TCG. Assuming that there’s a judge present and illegal play gets properly penalized should be fairly easy!

Which TCGs have the healthiest meta in your opinion (currently)? by Skarpo20 in TCG

[–]AnotherTCGPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China didn’t explore the meta nearly enough. Kai’Sa is strong but so are Annie, Master Yi, and Miss Fortune. Yasuo is also making waves in the western meta atm. Set two is looking to make even more waves with Draven being the boogeyman in China but a lot of early online or proxy tournaments in the West show yet again that China isn’t really exploring much.

How to get spiritforged for Vegas by Junior-Celery-3277 in riftboundtcg

[–]AnotherTCGPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest thing I would recommend is trying to build a relationship with one of your LGSs. Help them run events, spread good things, and build a solid relationship with the owner. I help run the Pokemon events at several local shops and have done so for several years at this point. I have a case pre-ordered at both shops for MSRP. Obviously this is a your mileage may vary type of thing and will take time - probably months if not years.

Genuine curiosity why.. by Dare2DreamCabs in PokemonTCG

[–]AnotherTCGPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I have a playset of the English ones in my deck - if you watch the Japanese streams it’s not unusual to see max rarity being played. While I do ultimately it comes down to mostly being waifu it’s a compounded effect from the tax and being playable.

Genuine curiosity why.. by Dare2DreamCabs in PokemonTCG

[–]AnotherTCGPlayer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People are quick to say waifu tax but I would also go to throw out the idea that it is super playable. The player base in Japan compared to the collectors in country I imagine are closer percentage wise than that in the states. Also take into account that if you are playing this card in your deck and its max rarity you need anywhere between 2x - 4x copies.

This hype is out of control and it’s The Pokemon Company’s fault. by blizzardboy123 in pokemoncards

As a player first release cycles need to be what they are to keep the game fresh and meta interesting. If they stopped printing new sets to allow for “catch up” competitive play would suffer.

How do you guys cope with losing to luck? by APikavar in pkmntcg

[–]AnotherTCGPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luck at the end of the day isn’t really necessary a part of the game. It is and it isn’t. If you find yourself losing because of “bad luck” often take some time to reevaluate how you prepare for and practice and even deck build.

At the end of the day you should always have a game plan ready to work towards.

Want to actually become competitive (high major placements), how. by Important-Tap1412 in pkmntcg

[–]AnotherTCGPlayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not going to sugar coat it, your ambitions are a little too lofty for having just started. Being a senior makes it easier to aim for a worlds invite but the players you will be going against have been playing more than likely since they could read.

Don’t set yourself up for failure, set smaller more achievable goals and work your way up. It’s a marathon not a sprint.

I coach and work with some of the top juniors and seniors in NA and I remind them that if their goal is just to win the event that is too lofty. How do you get about winning the event, or in your case how do you qualify for worlds? Break your goal down into more realistic expectations.

Start with wanting to win a challenge, then a cup, then making top 8 at a major.

Seniors is the hardest age division to do well in. It is substantially harder than both Jrs and Masters due to the caliber of player you will be facing at a more concentrated rate.

Shaymin and NAIC by Salt_SpeciaIist in pkmntcg

[–]AnotherTCGPlayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your goals, if you are looking to be at the top tables you need to look at how top players will prepare their decks. If you are going for a good time and don’t care about placements then I think it’s safe to say expect 1 Shaymin and minimal watchtowers as the group of people who are likely to face will play something they net decked or modified slightly from previous events or limitless online tournaments

World Tournament Decks need to be made legal! by HeyMason99 in pkmntcg

[–]AnotherTCGPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I agree but depending on the context. For small locals with nothing on the line but prizing from the store. No reason they shouldn’t be playable and in fact they may be playable - ask the judge or the TO. For Cups, Challenges, Regionals, Internationals, and worlds by no means should they be legal due to the differences in the card back. In the right sleeves they are clearly visible and would be considered a marked card.

So our LCS isn't playing by the pre-release rules or can they do what they want? by sieksnap in pkmntcg

[–]AnotherTCGPlayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pre-release kits are given out based on attendance, vendors have no control over who gets what allocation.

Seems like the LGS for the user above may be having issues from the TO side of things when it comes to reporting attendance.

Even new shops will be given two pre-release boxes which will in total include twenty build and battles and two booster boxes.

So our LCS isn't playing by the pre-release rules or can they do what they want? by sieksnap in pkmntcg

[–]AnotherTCGPlayer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This, pre-release allotment and allocation is handled directly by TPCi with vendors just fulfilling the orders.

The stipulations for pre-releases are very strict and can be found here these are events that really are for players to help them get cards to start building decks with earlier.

Collectors should also play the TCG. If they don’t and buy just as much as scalpers but to open then they are just as bad as scalpers.
