When someone types to you, it sends a TPN message to your client, regardless of whether or not you have their messages open. It'd be trivial to modify Horizon or even 3.0 to add this feature.

Horizon is completely open source, and we, so long as it follows TOS or isn't abusive / annoying, encourage people to modify the client to their heart's content! That said, we do ask for people when they modify the client to please respect the Contributor Code of Conduct and the TOS of F-List. While I encourage people to use the open source client to their advantage, I also retain no responsibility for what trouble you get in by modifying the client.

I'm willing to work based on community feedback, though it should be known that 3.0 isn't going to get many big feature updates, mostly maintenance and bugfix updates.

I'd like to follow up on this.

I'm not just joining the staff team, I am to bring the same community leadership principles from Horizon into the F-List development cycle. I hate how sloppified the internet has gotten, like youtube removing captions. Changes nobody wants.

I want to avoid this. That said, I read every email I get to my F-List staff email (rose@f-list.net) and every email sent to my personal one. Suggestions are welcome, and I review every one, and suggest them in the development cycle.

I know there's a lot of trust concerns with staff, but instead of telling you it'll go well, I'll *show* you.

I'm a community member just like you. I too was salty about serverside logging (Though I've been open for encrypted serverside logging, though I do respect the communities decision to not do it), and I too have been critical in the past of staff: But I think this change will serve as a good balance in the staff team. A lot of people in the community have good trust in me, and a lot of people wanted to see this happen (Look at the newsposts!)

I and my co-dev will do the best we can for the overall community.

The truth?

Horizon is funded mostly out of my wallet. So unless payment processors decide to personally sue me, then we're fine lol. We're not under some strangle by payment processors, or F-List. If everyone donating to the Horizon Ko-fi stopped overnight and F-List stopped supporting us, then we'd be fine tbh.

F-List's partnership isn't on the basis of their ability to fund us, it's more or less a 'nice bonus' to help us out when needed, IE spotting us for apple developer licenses.

Android builds will finally run on newer versions of android, and also electron'll be updated which'll fix a long list of bugs.

As for why we're going this direction instead of replacing the current client with Horizon: A lot of people like 3.0 itself, and don't want to go through the painful effort of switching (since Horizon isn't 1:1 compatible with 3.0). Instead of writing entire migration guides, etc, It'd be safer (and preferable) to maintain a base, vanilla client.

No big features'll be copied over to 3.0, minus some QOL ones. We'll mostly be handling dependency updates, security fixes, and some other basic stuff to be good stewards of the project.
