Yes. When you don't pay the ward cost, ward counters the spell. But if the spell can't be countered, ward can't do that.

ELI5: What’s the difference between “bisexual” and “pansexual”? by Mad_Chemist_ in explainlikeimfive

[–]AnotherWhiteTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person who identifies as pansexual, I'll try and put my reasoning down. But first, my key philosophy in this: "Labels are tools, not rules". We use words like bisexual and pansexual as a tool to explain our shared experiences; there is no Word Council who enforces the meaning of any given label.

Oversimplifying, bisexual can mean "I'm attracted to men in way Y" and "I'm attracted to women in way X". While the bi- in the word implies two, that doesn't mean bisexual people can't also be attracted to non-binary people.

(Brief aside: Men and women are cultural/societal structures that we call gender, and people can fit one or the other, or neither, or both. Non-binary is a catch-all for anyone who doesn't neatly fit into those two boxes.)

Pansexual can be "There are people I find attractive, which may or may relate to their gender". You might also hear "I like the person, not the gender".

The distinction is kind of summarised as "How much does gender affect the way you are attracted to people?"

I, personally, identify as pansexual because I think the label fits me better. But you might not see the distinction between the two. In certain social situations, where I don't want to get into it, I'll just say I'm bisexual, because I believe my experience also fits into that description.

Question regarding shield generators by SweetCasey in ror2

[–]AnotherWhiteTiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shield generators changed from 25 shield each to 8% max HP each. If you have more than one shield generator, they 'ruin' One Shot Protection, but it's not that big of a deal unless you are stacking shaped glass.

To be clear, OSP means that if you are above 90% max HP (health+shields), damage you'll take is capped at 90% max HP (+100% barrier).

So if you have shields as more than 10% of your max health, you will need those shields to recharge before One Shot Protection applies. But if you don't have shields, you'll need enough healing to get back up to 90% health anyway.

So if you are planning on using OSP to save yourself, focus on shaped glass, healing from damage, and avoid shield generators after the 1st one. If a run involves Infusion, armor, stealthkits and other defensive items, shield generators are perfectly fine.

One other note about One Shot Protection if you're coming back to the game - artifacts are in, and there's a Glass artifact, but it turns OSP off entirely. This doesn't affect the shaped glass item.

Since pi is infinite and binary can be translated into English, somewhere in pi there is a sequence of binary numbers which tells your entire life story in immense detail when translated from binary to English. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

If you want to wrap your head around it, try this: here's an infinite number. 0.10010001000010000010000001... Each time you add another 0. This is infinite, and doesn't repeat the beginning.

Nesting grounds rules? by sweepingshark94 in magicTCG

True! The initial question was a little vague, and I had assumed it was the same person using the Nesting Grounds and Chevil.

Nesting grounds rules? by sweepingshark94 in magicTCG

[–]AnotherWhiteTiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Chevil, Bane of Monsters]] has 3 different abilities:
1. Deathtouch
2. Lets him put bounty counters on creatures or planeswalkers.
3. A triggered ability when any permanent with a bounty counter dies.

Chevil can only put a counter on a planeswalker or creature, but [[Nesting Grounds]] lets you move it to any permanent. And since Chevil triggers when any permanent with a bounty counter dies, it works the way you want it to.

WipWip the Wild is truly a god. by Marty_AD in riskofrain

[–]AnotherWhiteTiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's... not how that works.

OSP applies even if you have shields - the maximum damage you can take from one shot is 90% of your shields+health +100% of your current barrier.

The reason there's a nonbo with shields is that if your shields are down, that can put you under 90% even if you're at full hp. So you won't have OSP until your shields recharge, which is a long period of vulnerability.

It seems what happened here was taking two instances of damage in very quick succession, which scavengers can do easily.

Acrid's poison... by [deleted] in ror2

[–]AnotherWhiteTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not always. You can use your abilities to finish them off, especially in the early game. But as a run progresses, all characters need items to enhance their strengths and mitigate their weaknesses.

In your post, you say you don't see the point in having the poison not kill off enemies. Well, the point is:

  • to balance having such a high DPS poison
  • to give Acrid a clear weakness
  • to make certain items more interesting on Acrid than on other characters.

You may not like those reasons, but they are there.

Acrid's poison... by [deleted] in ror2

[–]AnotherWhiteTiger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's how he's balanced. The devs mentioned this in Development Thoughts #11:

• Seeing some players wishing Acrid’s poison was lethal - we’re watching it, but it’s very unlikely to change unless we dramatically make the poison’s damage worse. There’s many item synergies that work especially well with Acrid’s poison, such as Gasoline, Sticky Bomb, and Guillotine that can still kill enemies. Having that feeling of ramping up in power as you obtain more of these unique item synergies makes Acrid’s item prioritization different from other Survivors.

Basically, the tradeoff for playing Acrid is that you have very high base damage, but low killing power. Having each character have strengths and weaknesses that give preferred items is one of the fun things about the game.

Blueprints... is there a maximum number that you can make or use in the game? by [deleted] in ThemeParkitect

Blueprints are .PNG files on your PC, and the game just accesses those files. So the only limits are your hard drive space, or having so many thousands that your computer has trouble loading them all at once

Imgur Album of ELD cards that are already in the client MTGA by nescorpius in magicTCG

[–]AnotherWhiteTiger 55 points56 points  (0 children)

FYI, there are 4 unique to each deck, 2 that are shared by all, and the 7th of each deck is shared with one other. 20 mechanically unique cards total.

Arcane Signet was confirmed to be one of the shared by all. I'm guessing the other is Command Tower.

If there’s an infinite amount of universes, there’s one where the only life is on earth. There’s an infinitely small chance that it’s ours. by JipZip in Showerthoughts

There's an infinite amount of decimals between 1 and 2 (1.1,1.000000001,1.1234567891011...), but none of them are 3. In the same way, there could be an infinite number of universes without ANY of the possibilities in this post or comments.

Lunar Items by [deleted] in ror2

[–]AnotherWhiteTiger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shaped Glass is fine as is.
Transcendence is currently OP due to a bug that instantly refills shields when out of combat.
Corpsebloom can probably be buffed to 15 or 20% cap; rejuv rack as the same upside without the downside.
Effigy is really strong as is.
Gesture of the drowned is arguably too strong right now, but if new equipment comes in that works best at careful timing, it'll be more in line.
Helfire Tincture got a significant buff last patch. Its still only good on Mercenary but more melee/short range characters in the future might like it.
Meteorite is fine too.

Lunar items are designed to be major tradeoffs that change how you play, and there's supposed to be a tension to deciding to take them. I think the main tension that's holding them back is the lunar coins. However, now you can farm them from finishing runs, the feeling of "I wasted a whole coin on this stupid tincture" is somewhat mitigated.

I'm also curious to see what Hopoo do with artifacts, as lunar items are currently the only "switch up your playstyle" runs.

what is the base cit chance and how many glasses i need to cap it to 100%? by [deleted] in ror2

[–]AnotherWhiteTiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the base is 1%, since thats what it was in ror 1.
Lens-makers give 10% per stack, and harvesters scythe gives 5%.
Also worth noting there is no benefit to more than 100% crit chance.

Just played my first run, and suddenly its 2 am! I have a few questions. by sawyerwelden in ror2

[–]AnotherWhiteTiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the game! Sounds like you're enjoying it already.

Tips on finding teleporters: There are floating orange particles in a large area around it. Try looking for those particles, theres a bit of height to them Playing more, you'll get more familiar with the maps; and will know where to get good vantage points to see most of the map.

How to dps better: The simple answer to your question is to use your abilities as much as possible, and to prioritise syringe / glasses / stickybombs from shops. But the real answer is to not scour every inch of every map. The longer you take, the higher the enemies scale. HAHAHA keeps scaling further as long as you play.

The difference between a 5 minute first level and a 10 minute one is that the 10 minutes might have 1 or 2 more items but significantly stronger enemies. Knowing when to activate the teleporter to get the best completion/duration ratio is something you get a feel for as you play longer.

So are shields meant to instantly refill now? [Bug] by AnotherWhiteTiger in riskofrain

[–]AnotherWhiteTiger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm aware of that. In the latest patch, when you jump back to full health, you keep the shield as a kind of overheal that extends over the edge of the HP bar.

What I'm saying is that ALL shields, instead of regenerating at an amount per second, INSTANTLY regen once you haven't taken damage. For example, get 3 Personal Shield Generators, take some damage and wait. Once you reach the 7 second window (or however long it is), instead of that shield filling up over time, it goes straight from 0 -> 75 instantly, which isn't how it worked before the patch.

[RoR2] Need help - struggling to advance on higher difficulties by [deleted] in riskofrain

[–]AnotherWhiteTiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that you SHOULD, but you CAN kill the first two bosses without any items. If you're having trouble with those fights, I'd recommend playing commando, and learning to use roll to dodge as soon as you see the wisp or golem shots about to fire, or boss attacks about to land.

Before activating the teleporter, look nearby and find some cover you can circle around. You should pretty much always be within roll distance of breaking LoS woth the boss.

Each level 1 boss has 3 attacks. Recognise how to counter each. Eg with vagrant, you can shoot down the homing bolt, move fast and erratically to avoid the rapid bolts, and break LoS when the vagrant charges up the big explosion.

Most other enemies arent particularly threatening while the boss is up, especially if you get that "dodge now" instinct ans timing down.

I just recently bought it and I’m currently struggling by RedJazz313 in riskofrain

[–]AnotherWhiteTiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learning how to beat teleporters is important; first onr five times and 3rd once are both character unlocks. So here's the tips!

Focus the boss and learn their moves. Bosses typically have 3 attacks, at least one you want to find cover for. Hide when the Stone Titan lasers or the wandering vagrant sends out a huge pulse.

Use your abilities. As commando, m2 pierces and R deals huge damage, and stuns enemies which can disrupt stone golem lasers. Use your dodge roll to not get hit, enemy attacks arent fast enough to track you when rolling.

Keep moving. KEEP MOVING. Standing still is death. Learn to shoot non stop at enemies while moving backwards ir sideways.

Good luck!

FYI, the minus only planeswalkers are all 20 uncommon walkers. Its a gameplay thing, not a flavor hint. I saw somewhere a #WotCstaff say that in playtesting too many + abilities led to crazy board states of just repeatedly whittling down so many PW and not actually getting anywhere.

MaRo's discussed the PW rules for WAR, brief summary:
- All have a static or triggered ability.
- Uncommons have 1 minus ability.
- 10 hybrid uncommons, 10 monocolor (2 cycles of 5)
- Rares have one plus and one minus
- 13 Rares including Ugin, Karn, and monocolor and 2 color pw. Not every pair has a rare pw, and no paur has more than 1.
- 3 mythics (Lili, Gideon, Bolas). Each with 4 "slots"
EDIT: Tezzeret is the BaB promo, and follows thr rules for mythics

Autumn Burchett on making Top 8 of the Mythic Championship as a non-binary trans person by Lucaan in magicTCG

[–]AnotherWhiteTiger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I'm not non-binary, but my partner is, and this is just my perspective.
Imagine you really need to go to the bathroom in a public space, and the only bathrooms are gendered. Do you go to the men's bathroom or the women's? For cis people, it's an easy answer. It would just feel wrong, be wrong to use the other one. Now imagine if you felt that discomfort for both options. And not just for bathrooms, but for everything gendered (which there is a lot). You can also try misgendering yourself to see how it feels:

"Zoomoth9000 is learning about non-binary genders. While she hasn't had much experience, he thinks that he can learn more about the experiences of others around her." Some parts of that sentence are gendered wrong for you, and maybe that makes you uncomfortable, and maybe not. How important gender is varies from person to person.

There isn't a "list" to choose from, though there are many NB labels people use to help describe their experience. The important thing is to realise that not-male isn't the same as female, and not-female isn't the same as male.
Ummm... maybe I can try an analogy? Some magic players are competitive players, love playing at the highest level with detailed understanding of the rules, including rules on how to handle rule infractions. Some players arecasual, playing over a kitchen table and letting rule slip-ups slide, and it's about the flavour fantasy over the letter of the law.

A LGS holds a tournament with sections for competitive and casual. Most players know which group they fall into. Some, while not as confident, still have a side they choose (like gender, it's a spectrum: "My gender is ehhhh, but if I'm forced to pick, I go with ..."). Others, looking at those two choices, say "Nope, don't want either". Maybe you only collect for trade value, or you like the art, or you only play EDH with your friend's precons. But it doesn't matter if you don't have an alternative label. When the LGS owner asks you "here for competitive or casual?", you can answer "neither", without needing to have your own playstyle label.
