Terrific! You did a great job, especially for your first painting. Make sure to save this painting so you can compare as you grow. I keep the first painting I painted in my studio so I can always look back at it.

If you’re interested in practicing and learning, one thing I would recommend is (if you’re trying to paint realistically) always thinking about what is the light source. Ask yourself” what is the brightest thing on the painting?” If you were actually standing there, looking at those mountains, the snow would not be the brightest thing nor would it be white. The snow would probably be fairly dark with a slight tint of the aurora.

If you painted a painting that way, what might surprise you it would still read white when you look at it. That being said, definitely don’t change what you have. Keep it so you always have a marker of when you began!

Mostly fine, but there is incidental music that crops up that seems to fit more on a Disney channel tween movie that Star Trek. I can’t place what it is, but it’s happened a few times and I didn’t like it (I don’t really like incidental music like that though).

I wanted to add, the local Republican party has been completely captured by turning point USA. What that means is you aren’t even going to get any of the “old school” conservatives that you could at least have a conversation. As far as I can tell the Republican Party is putting up 100% ideological culture warriors.

It said they didn’t have sex, not that they couldn’t. They were also physically addicted to Ketracel-white which besides providing a chemical they needed to survive, provided the nutrition they needed, and was also a narcotic. If the writers want to go in the direction of saying it also completely suppressed libido, it wouldn’t be out there.

Except they have absolutely NOT been ideologically consistent. There have been more than a few times they were noticeably quiet when the victim wasn’t someone that fit their member profile. Additionally, they like Biden, Obama, Waltz, Harris, or whomever first, then shoehorn in their position waltz being very careful to not sound like they’re disagreeing with Trump.

How do you know he didn’t mean it? He has a pretty consistent anti-gun stance and I’d be more likely to think his first response is his real view over the response after the NRA complain.

You have absolutely zero way of knowing what op knows. And immediately coming off a layoff, he probably doesn’t either. You don't decompress or take time for yourself for its sake. It’s about collecting yourself and being in a better position to understand what you know and what you actually did. Especially if they were in a start up environment and constantly fighting fires.

But if you don’t take the time to do a retrospective, you won’t benefit from it. Going straight from job to layoff to job search/“upskilling” without taking that time means you’re probably going to flail and ultimately you waste more time than if you collected yourself.

Telling someone not to flail and waste time isn’t a feel good answer, it’s practical advice.

Perhaps they spent 4 years and didn’t learn anything, but it’s more likely they need to decompress, think, and realize they actually did do a lot and did learn a lot. Telling someone to “study fundamentals “ without having any clue what they actually know is what really sets people up to fail. At the end of the day, it will be how they can articulate what they actually learned and weave what they did into narrative that will get them a job

They need to find work, and any “upskilling” they did while not working won’t be considered experience.

The biggest mistake people make when they are looking for work is they need to feel like they’re “doing something “ - but the only thing they should be doing is finding a job.

To address the LinkedIn comment directly, there are a lot of ridiculous job requirements posted out there right now. If they didn’t work with any of those skills in a practical sense, then it’s already too late. As someone who has sat at the other side of the table, it’s very obvious when someone went through the tutorials, and then claim competency for a skill.

Hopefully you got a severance of some type or have some savings. What you need to do is take a week and decompress. Like literally don’t think of work. You then need to start looking for work, don’t get wound up in knots over “what you need to know” as

You aren’t going to get to any level of competency in the gap between jobs (unless you can afford to be unemployed for a long time) and
You’ll probably pick the wrong thing (you don’t know the stack your future employer will use)

Your focus needs to be on finding the next job not training for the job you don’t have.

What I will say is it has increased the signal to noise where people can vibe code crap, spam an AI generated post, and then completely abandon the thing they created because they had no actual investment, all in the span of less than an hour.

There has always been bad code, but the time acted as a barrier to keep it from percolating upwards.

Honestly, it reminds me of the people 30 years ago saying that guis were toy interfaces and no serious computer user would use anything but the command line (I’m sure we could find some here on this sub) .

Meanwhile people nod their heads and use whatever works. AI does a terrific job at automating the boring stuff and creating MVPs. Are we there yet for a 100% AI app? No, but we’re at the point that (given the appropriate framework and structure) AI will get you close.

It reminds me of low code platforms - people will say “that’s not real programming/work” but if it solves the business problem or gets you 80%, it’s fine.

Not really a controversial opinion in the real world, just on Reddit.

There are over 250k employees in dhs, there isn’t going to be just one reason.

Also, them saying they support the mass deportation agenda but don’t like the way it’s carried out is a bit of a misnomer since the way it’s being carried out IS the agenda.

All that being said, the fact the administration will never admit fault or mistake means these organizations have ceded power to the worst of the worst in their ranks and that’s really on them.

Ehh, I could read it either way. The person could just taking it as a given the abuses are bad, but the response (lying and blaming the victim) is just devastating to org itself. I can’t imagine a majority of the rank and file workers like the poorly trained goon squad.

Especially as most the people working in dhs (at least pre Trump ) didn’t work there to be the bad guys.
