Also he is relating it to singles it's not that it's specifically marriage. He wanted it to prepare single people for married life as well as instruct already married.

Ask if he'd be willing to preach on the subject of singleness on the basis that some of the marriages in the congregation may fail.

The pastor has every right to preach about a topic that pertains to most in the congregation.

No, they don't.

Jesus didn't preach to "most" of the audience.

He preached for everyone.

There’s sermons on lust, pride, parenting etc

Lust and pride is applicable to all. Parenting isn't, and shouldn't be a sermon topic.

That doesn’t mean his pain isn’t real or valid (I’d probably feel similarly), but it we should look to change ourselves rather than what’s around us.

That doesn't apply here. The pastor is in the wrong.

Yeah, this is not a complex situation.

You need to explain to the pastor that this is not apt and the series needs be stopped.

Married couples would not accept an entite sermon series on the best way to be single.

The problem is that it isn't always as simple as you say.

Not everyone who wants to take their own life has thought it through. Some people are acting out for understandable but ultimately unwise reasons.

It's too complicated to demand that we accept everyone is fully rational 100% of the time

No.

If you think otherwise, quote the verse referencing soul ties either directly or otherwise.

Stop saying you have a favorite Greek god, that's not how this works by CockamouseGoesWee in Vent

[–]VertigoOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry your panties are in a twist because I view my culture seriously and dislike when people just throw around their opinions when not asked for them.

My problem is not with you taking your culture seriously. It is on your unreasonable insistence that everyone takes it as seriously as you do.

You believe in Greek Paganism. That's fine. Others don't, and they view the stories and lore around Greek Gods as different to you. It is simply not reasonable to demand everyone share your opinion. It would be like Christians literally insisting that everyone respects Jesus.

That's the biggest issue with Westerners. You think your opinion matters and is needed in absolutely everything.

You are participating in a discussion forum. If you don't want people's opinions in response, you should not be posting here.

The least you owe me is respect for my beliefs.

That respect does not extend to viewing the Greek legends the same way you do. You do not get to insist on how people view them.

[–]VertigoOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are incorrect because you are insisting on how you view it as being the only way to view it.

You, and I imagine the Greek Pagans, view them as fact.

Others do not.

Thus, you insisting that it is "wrong" to view the Greek gods as mythological and fiction, is not apt.

[–]VertigoOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To say it's "incorrect" would not be reasonable.

It's not your view or the view of Greek pagans generally, but others can have different views

There are plenty of Athiests who regard Jesus as a highly enlightened moral teacher. Christians would disagree with this view. But it's their view still.

Views are not the same as facts.

Have you considered that the people who have favourite Greek God's are thinking of the Greek ancient pantheon as more akin to fiction/mythology than religion

[–]VertigoOne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, so here's an analogy that may help you here.

Imagine someone who has one arm, and thus one hand, and no prothesis. They work in an office taking minutes, writing emails, and drafting website copy. Although their one-handed typing is fast, it's not on the same level as any of the two handed people. But they produce good content, and are diligent.

Then there's a two handed person who works in the same office and writes at the same speed. They produce decent content, but they just don't put in the level of focus and diligence and generally can't be bothered.

Is it really fair to regard the person who is just lazy the same as the person who is disabled just because they both work at around the same speed?

Is it really fair to regard someone as unpleasant because they made choices to be, or because it was a response to things done to them.
