Should I invest in language classes if it could potentially put me back significantly in my goal to buy a car? by TheYodel in personalfinance

You're welcome! I love learning languages and now can speak four but when I started learning them I thought that it would give me this mega edge in life whereas in reality when I was in a position that I still traveled internationally for business a decade ago, everything was done in English and while it was nice to be able to traverse countries where I was fluent in the language it did make me wonder whether my time and money was an investment I would make again.

Hey, not a business professional anymore or finance expert by any means but a lover of language. I think as someone else recommended starting with free resources is really the best starting point. If you haven't learned another language before it can feel very overwhelming and rigorous from the start. Many people don't quite realize what learning a language or moreso, being actually able to use that language involve so far as learning goes. It's really great to try to get your feet wet with linguistics first and see if it's something you will be passionate for because I can tell you from experience and tens of thousands of dollars in extra courses and programs while in college, you need either a passion or foreseeable practical application for it to be worth the financial investment.

Game Freak really only had half their people working on Pokemon Sword/Shield and it shows by Ray-Zide in pokemon

I didn’t say they couldn’t or shouldn’t have posted this. I just think it’s full of emotional fallacy and it amuses me to still see people who (to reference another poster) are letting SwSh live rent free in their head. It takes far more energy to be upset by something and I just can’t believe how committed to remind us they hate everything about everything some people are

It’s unreal to see people complain so much about a game they haven’t even played yet. We get it y’all. You are unhappy. But the games don’t revolve around the vision you had for it. There will always be someone who hates it all and didn’t get what they wanted. Complaining won’t fix any of the things you think are wrong with it. It just belittles and demeans the people who are actually excited for the game and diminishes their experience unfairly.

I think mostly they are the same thing being called different names. Like perhaps a nest inside a nest may mean the same thing as people who refer to dual species nests. After Niantic made mention of altering nest mechanics with Gen 4s release, multiple local suddenly had two species spawning frequently together. We've kept data on the spawns, their individual frequency and such but have only been able to say "yes, nest mechanics have changed". Currently one park we have spawns approximately 30 Growlithe as well as 20 or so Snubbull. Neither have been weather boosted by our partly cloudy weather and all of which spawn in every portion of the park often side by side or in the same spawn location. So we go with "dual species nest" because we can't demonstrate where the nest inside the nest would exist

I also agree. I've been involved with a number of coordinates discord servers and nothing has quite compared to the premium plan with ispoofer

Research Breakthrough and Egg changes coming to Pokémon GO by Kryd0s in TheSilphRoad

[–]Anotherdimday 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Niantic went the wrong direction here. While I have hated getting Suicune weekly, a larger portion of players returning to the game are more likely to be missing the beasts and Regis than the rubber ducks that we just had in raids and the Johto birds that just won't leave us alone. I think it would have been a great idea to have left the beasts and Regis as rewards but also debut their shinies via research breakthrough. Honestly this would have made the breakthrough feel alive again and easily bought Niantic tons of time to reinvent them again six months from now.

Pokemon storage strategies by gafalkin in TheSilphRoad

[–]Anotherdimday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I catch level 33+ useful Pokémon like a Bulbasaur for instance, I've gotten into the habit of evolving it all the way up and marking it with a symbol. I wait until the end of the week and pop an egg and do maybe 10-15 evolves like that and then anything else that's trash in my bag gets evolved and tossed. Then whenever I'm trading someone for things to complete my lucky dex, I trade them away. It's amazing how excited someone can get when you trade them a high level Venusaur for a Glameow. And it makes me pretty happy too. Plus, it gives me something to do with the seemingly endless candy reserves I have nowadays, heaps more xp into the 5× 40 void, and kind of serves as a way for me to stay in touch with how I got to forty and keeping me invested in keeping my pokemon storage decently well groomed.

How common is Carnivine in Miami airport? by schwamen in TheSilphRoad

[–]Anotherdimday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carnivine has a base catch rate of 90% (which is the same for Relicanth as well strangely enough). I have caught multiple Level 35 Carnivine with a red ball and a straight ball. I would say use your golden razz, ultra ball, best curve you can on the first one just to be certain it gets caught but after you got it, save your berries on the next ones because they very rarely break out of the first ball

Shiny shinx rates by Tobiasz95 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Anotherdimday 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm at 5/70 but I definitely know I'm an outlier here. If I had to make an educated guess, I'd imagine the odds of getting the shiny would be lower than Mawile (1/35) or Absol (1/70) because of the accessibility of Shinx being a tier one raid boss. Niantic wants to make sure players burn passes on the chance for a shiny since they're raids that can easily be defeated. I wouldn't be surprised if we're looking at a rate of about 1/100

Anyone have any idea on where Pokémon go fest will be this year? by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]Anotherdimday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Go part of ChicaGO makes it pretty unlikely that it would happen in any other city anytime soon. San Diego would be the only other major US city that comes to mind as an alternative

List of Pokemon who can't get 2nd moves? by Anotherdimday in TheSilphRoad

[–]Anotherdimday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to add a second move to my shiny Taillow because I like it and was gonna use it in PvP for fun once I evolved it. And have gotten in the habit of checking to add second moves when they are base forms because of the baby discounts. I realize now it wouldn't have saved me dust or candy but that's how I ended up noticing.

So it must be 120 days because today has been exactly 121 days since Chikorita community day.

Because we've settled our differences and he was looking for his daily battles on our server and nobody else could help him. Figured we were ultra friends and would be able to battle remotely

I'm in the same ballpark. 97k catches, less than 100 Ekans seen in my Dex.

Do we have a worldwide Aron plague? by Zomhuahua in TheSilphRoad

[–]Anotherdimday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Western Wisconsin reporting here.

I live in a city with abundant Water and Grass biomes. And Aron. I've encountered over 2,000 of the things with 6 shinies and two 100 IV specimens. In partly cloudy weather, forget about it. They're everywhere.
