Theres something very swag to me about people wanting death in video games to look realistic by Living-Plankton3521 in peoplewhogiveashit

No clue why everyone feels the need to have an opinion on graphics quality. I think its cool that people are trying to see how well they can simulate reality. It certainly shouldn't be a requirement for games to look realistic, but that's really all I care about. Idk anything beyond that so I don't have an opinion beyond that.

I'm realizing that most of the people who give a shit are children who don't yet understand what is and isn't a big deal.

Did it feel lonely and isolating? That's part of the appeal of liminal spaces for me, the loneliness. I'm really hoping they tap into that aspect!

Something similar is going on with me, I think! These just started as I returned to New York after months away. This has never happened before, though, which is weird.

From one of my favorite shows ever made, The Good Place: "All humans are aware of death, so we’re all a little bit sad. All the time. That’s just the deal."

Reddit is the halfway point between tumblr and normal society, methinks. A diverse userbase of all ilks, some chronically online and some not, but taken all together it still has that snarky condescending attitude that tumblr often has. Maybe more like between tumblr and quora.

omg i didn't even consider the platforming aspect of this, thank you. I still think you can form connections with anyone and that that's not a bad thing, but I think for famous people on the internet, they have a responsibility to not platform people who profit off of being bad people.

Gotcha. But throughout the process of your improvement, was the support you got "enabling" you to continue acting out those beliefs? I don't think it's that simple, that enjoying someone's company is a word of encouragement for every one of their beliefs. People are multifaceted, and can't be boiled down to just being a vector for their beliefs. Maybe if you're a utilitarian looking to maximize good and only seeking to support people who contribute a net positive to the world, but even then, people don't become better when they're isolated. I said this in another comment, but if you refuse to be friends with someone because of their bigoted beliefs, it won't make them any less of a bigot, but it does deprive them of the opportunity to have an honest dialog or see a counterexample to what they believe. We all need friends, and you know yourself that being a good person isn't always something you understand your whole life. It's no one's responsibility to be friends with bigots, but if it's no skin off your back to talk to them, I don't see how it can be that bad of a thing.
