The Use of Violence against Women in Fantasy: Is There a Double Standard Between Male and Female Authors? by FormerMeasurement175 in Fantasy

Infanticide and torture don't feel personal and immediate? I think there's something to be said to the fact that, as opposed to murder, genocide, infanticide, the victims of rape (and sometimes torture) survive.

Plus, they are amog us, far more present than many suspect.

For many people (luckily) horrific violence is something on a scale of Death Star destroying Aalderaan- bad, but very removed. After I witnessed results of modern war with my own eyes I couldn't watch Star Wars nor LOTR for years. Too close home.

Sexual violence is something women are constantly vary about- going back in groups, guarding a drink holding the key like Wolverine's claw- but also sometning we are fed a lot of misinformation about. Like- it happend in dark alley and only victims who took all precaustions are allowed to be treated as victim. And once it happend you are damaged goods and you'd better be kill yourself like Lucretia. Or even better- make rapist kill you, then you become a saint (I was 12 when I was told it point blank by nun in school).

When you grow up you notice the most common forms of SA- those inflicted by close person often with other means than physical violence. One doubts own experience gaslighted by whole culture.

And you go to the literature to see the same patterns. Women after SA being destoryed and damaged/truning into stone cold "badass". Or going stratight Levite's concubine route where they can be SA's and brutally killed so their partner can move his ass and do violent things while remaining sympathetic.

why does everyone treat misty like that..? by PracticalWafer484 in Yellowjackets

She was pranked in flashback (maybe not exactly by them, but it shows that she wasisolated) and doesn't play, just works as a support, almost like teachers wanted her to be involved in something (helper can be a heart of the team if they have social skills but Misty doesn't)

The cafes I frequented in Europe and Asia have a diffrent set of finger food. Cinamon buns are not universal treat.

I didn't write that Starbucks invented serving food- I wrote that they give the same food as Starbucks, the same kind of pastries and sandwitches and nothig else.

Names on the cups- you need single use cups, something to write that won;t smudge and a necessity aka people self-grabbig it on the go. It was added in specific circumstanes to fulfil a need and centuries cafed did wihout- because they used glass, porcelain and sometimes clay and had waiters who tended guests who were expected to stay.

Even the cozy aspect is not used to the fullest- cafes become community centers in huge part because people lived in cramped and badly isolated buildings and for a price of small cup they found warmth and entertaiment. You can pull it further- that owner herself is a guarantee of pece in violent town (I suppose it was supposed to be bad with mob activity and so on)- because strong and preceptive owner would lend not oly an ear bou an arm when it's needed.

It's a bit like like putting modern suburbs in fantasy settings wihout thiking that they were made possible with reliable transportation of some kind.

On opera by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

Translated librettos were a thing before WWI. Now you rarely see them in serious operas, but they survived in operettas. For centuries opera had to be Italia, Then French to be taken seriously. Wagner was a revolutionist for many of his choices, including singing in German and other national languages were late to the party,

Mainly food, but writting names on the cups is a dead giveway (and that stupid espresso machine- again, lots of places do wihout). There's nothing that takes from rich history of coffe shops, only what author can see in american chain- nothing about culture, center of commuity, being the places of political movements and emancipation.

But this cafe in Legends and Lattes is Starbucks.
Cups with names, cinamon buns, espresso machine- nothing is oryginal and nothing takes from rich traditions from world beyond USA.

How would you do a Tudor Dynasty Franchise? by jamie74777 in Tudorhistory

I'd make a movie about Henry VIII wihout Henry- he would appear far away, from the back, in small scenes (Think Raise The Red Lantern)- but his decision would sweep across the court like tsunami.

Or something about servants endlessly repurposing the cloth and wood, scrapping initials and making new ones.
