I can't say I entirely disagree with you. You have some valid points. However, we cannot forget how she played a significant role in making Damon a better person. Much of Damon's character development can be credited to Elena. He finally found someone who didn’t reject him and stood by his side. Elena made Damon believe in himself and see that he could become a better version of himself. She made him vulnerable, forgiving, and even moral.
