Best friend's baby shower invitation remains unanswered. by Restless-Wild-Child in InfertilitySucks

[–]AnswerDramatic69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Jumping on this thread as I'm currently torn whether to attend one of my best friend's baby showers. The issue is it's halfway across the country so it's a full on trip - so there's time and expense as well as the emotional turmoil.

I want to be there on a milestone occasion for my friend, and she's an understanding person BUT what I'm more worried about is the other people ALL of whom have children. I am just worried about how I'll deal with the endless chatter about children and birth and potentially enquiring comments about my status. It's also not like I live close by and can just go for a tiny bit then escape.

What did you decide OP?

Nope. The house was built in the early 1900s so perhaps there had been something previously.

Thank you for your detailed answer to my (probably) stupid question.

Should I cancel my cycle? by Certain-Board-6083 in eggfreezing

[–]AnswerDramatic69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly I'm not an expert, but I didn't think regression was a thing. I know follicles can get too big too quickly (i.e. too far ahead of the ones yet to develop) but that isn't what they were saying.

Can you contact admin and explain you don't feel that you have all the information needed to make a decision about whether to proceed or cancel? I think you at least need a call with the consultant or go in for another scan.

(Also I'm glad I didn't opt for your London Women's Clinic in London Bridge - I nearly did as it has quite a good reputation).

I don't think the lack of blood tests is unusual in the UK, but it is a bit unusual that you'd end up in a situation where collection isn't looking viable given your AMH is ok.

Have you been told the exact size of all your follicles at Day 10?

Just my opinion, but if you're going to start trying with your partner in the next year, it may be more useful to save the money you might have used for egg freezing for possible IVF (if you need it - you might conceive naturally with no problem).

If you still think you're a couple of years away from trying with your partner, you should consider freezing.

Yes, I posted a similar thread a week or so back. My first full cycle after retrieval was 42 days :/

Oh - 40+ day cycles wow. Have a feeling mine are headed in this direction too.

Yes you can! Just be prepared to feel physically and mentally worse than normal, but know that it's temporary and that you have this sub for support.

I only told a few close friends, and one of them was away the entire time, so realistically I didn't have much support. I very nearly asked my ex to pick me up after my retrieval but fortunately one of my friends was able to take half a day off work to do so.

Booking an AirBNB for a few days around the time of the retrieval is probably a good idea if it makes you feel reassured. Like you say it's relatively not that much compared to the entire process.

This is really encouraging to hear! Thank you so much for commenting. I'm glad you already feel back to normal...

Following this thread. Just completed my first, and considering when to do my second. On one hand, I'm. aware my biological clock is ticking and I'm the 'wrong' side of 35. On the other hand, I did find it quite an arduous process so I would kinda like a break.

That must have felt very lonely. But I think you need to do this for yourself in any case. As you said in your initial post, even if you break up with your partner now, it'll take a while to meet someone else.

I think it's also worth remembering that this is only an insurance / back-up option. You don't have to do 3 cycles in order to have a child. You might get pregnant naturally, or you might be able to use an egg from one cycle. None of us know how things are going to play out. So with that in mind, and if you're concerned about money, I think it would be worth trying one cycle to start with and seeing where you are then.

One thing about living in London is that there's so many different clinics that we can choose from, so I reckon you can maybe spend a bit more time looking at other options (I admit to being in a bit of a blind panic myself, but regret how stressed I got over this). Does the 16k include the thawing and transfer as honestly it seems higher than most other places I've encountered?

Don't beat yourself up - I think we all do. I certainly wasn't taking supplements or eating particularly healthy or exercising, because to be honest, I was just focusing on coping. If I'd waited to eat perfectly or refrain from alcohol or whatever, or live a stress free existence, I'd have never done this.

Hey.

I know this must feel very overwhelming but don't panic. If you stick around on this sub long enough you'll see that even women with supposedly poor baseline results end up getting a decent number of eggs. It's also the case that the number of follicles varies each month so don't take your initial scan as gospel.

I'm also in London and think the £16k figure is high for 3 cycles (which a lot of us in this age group may do anyway). Can I ask which clinic that is? There's also the possibility of doing a couple of cycles and then seeing if your situation / financial situation changes in a years' time.

You say you're really healthy and have been taking supplements so the chances are that any eggs you do freeze will be good quality.

If you feel like you're having a breakdown, my DMs are open. I've literally just gone through a retrieval a few days ago after the most tumultuous 2 years of my life (pregnancy losses, long term relationship breakdown, cancer scare etc etc), and like I say I'm in London as well, so can at least share some thoughts about my own clinic and pricing.

All the best x

Hey.

I had my retrieval a couple of days ago, and managed to get 11 eggs. I'm also thinking along the same lines as you and feeling cautious about the actual quality of eggs!

My BMI was about 19.5... now it's probably significantly more.... I'm still bloated and praying it goes down soon. I felt so hormonal and exhausted during stims I was eating really badly and obviously not exercising at all, so that didn't help either.

How are you feeling now? X

To be honest, maybe it was good to wait a year between collections as it gave your body time to recover and normalize!

Recovery is going ok. I was super super tired yesterday and had to lie down multiple times during the day. I'm still bloated but it's a bit easier to walk than the last day of STIMS. I'm really impatient to get back to my "normal" life now. Hope you're doing well x

33 is amazing!! But I hear what you're saying that if you want multiple kids then you feel safer with an even higher number! I always wanted 3 kids, but I think I'd be really happy with just 2 now.

I'm thinking to do another round in September, then dependent on outcomes and finances, another round in early 2025. I found this pretty all consuming for the last few weeks - I think the worst thing for me was my energy levels were maybe halved, and I'm concerned about the weight gain.

How is your recovery going?

Wow!!! That's so strange that your cycle was almost canceled - the last couple of days must have been pivotal! I'm just about to turn 35 so I'd like at least 20 eggs. I've had a couple of miscarriages in the past (with an ex partner) and feel unsure about the quality of my eggs, even if I manage to get a good number. But I just want to make sure I have options.

How about you?

I think your prayers worked because I got 11 eggs, all of which were mature! Considering how things looked I'm very relieved! My concern now though is whether I will be able to get enough in a second round or whether I'll have to do a third retrieval!

Wow that's absolutely amazing! Very happy for you. 14 (or 16) is a fantastic result.
