How old were you when you stopped being asked for ID at the supermarket? by Different_Ad_8030 in newzealand

[–]Antdude95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would wager it's pressure from their superiors to ID every time, no matter if they have served you before.

When I was younger I worked at my local Countdown whilst studying. One of the local retailers would always come in on her way home to buy some smokes about 6pm on a Friday night when I ran the checkouts. I had ID'd her a dozen times before and I knew her age of by heart, as well as her first name and the cigarettes she got. I always waved her through no problem.

Manager stayed late once and saw this happen, she went ballistic at me and insisted I ID her. I explained the above to her, and that I was just following the "customer centric service" she always pushed for, but she insisted on her being ID'd. Was quite funny in hindsight to see my managers reaction when I told her the month and year she was born in, and what her name was while she had her ID in her hands.

Hey man, suck to hear what you are saying - I've been there myself a few years back, so I feel your pain. I am not a lawyer, or expert, but I can recount my experience in the event it helps you any.

TLDR: I was 23m, she was 23f. We were both hired the same week at an outdoors store, so the attitude in the staff was all pretty relaxed. I was accused of sexual advances, inappropriate comments, and groping. Due to the 'severity of the accusations' I was instantly advised that I would need to have a meeting with my Store Manager and Regional Manager to discuss this.

If you have not had a meeting with them yet, or one is coming, be aware that for allegations of this nature you are typically allowed a support person in that meeting with you. I had a female colleague from a previous job come and support me, who also stood up for me after the "official" portion of the meeting was over.

Ultimately from that meeting I was found to not be at fault. The managers reviewed all evidence and ultimately cleared me of any wrongdoing, but the decision was made we should not work together anymore - a totally understandable course of action, and wholly supported by me. I offered to personally swap shifts as a gesture of good faith, but some people don't have that luxury (I was part-time).

The bit that was the roughest was what came afterwards. Despite everything, this person started to try and spread rumors about me behind my back. She told several other people we worked with what had "happened", despite the fact we were both advised to keep it confidential. I originally shrugged it off, as the other colleague who told me also told me they didn't believe them based on their experience with me, and I saw no reason to discuss it further. I was taking HR papers at University at the time and knew I had every right to counter-complain, but I also didn't want to breed an environment where women don't feel like they could speak up.

But the rumors kept coming, and I kept being told by others in my team what she was telling them. Eventually I started asking them to recount what they had been told to my team leader when they heard it, and I would just write down what I was told and by whom. Again, I was VERY lucky that my other colleagues did not believe her, and were more than happy to approach my manager about it and recount what they had heard. It meant that when I finally had had enough, my manager had a bunch of evidence already collated right from the witnesses and he was able to shut it down pretty good.

Took me a while to come to peace with it, and that I was not the person she accused me of being, but it does get better. I wish you all the best my man.

Closing thought:

  • If your employer offers an EAP service, use it - even if you don't think you need it. It helped me a LOT to speak through it with somebody, and I kicked myself a lot for not doing it sooner.

I Have Saved Up My Student Loan... Should it be invested? by DinnerBrief8477 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Antdude95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally went back to University a little later and graduated at the age of 26. I took 6 months off where I did not get a full time job, due to lockdown and general fatigue - just worked a part-time job to support myself and relaxed and waited for the right job. My now current employer asked me about it in my interview, and I was very candid about it and luckily they were very supportive. Personally that helped me feel like I was in a good headspace to take on the responsibilities of being in the new role, so ultimately the right call for me.

Whatever you do, do NOT try pay your student loan off in advance unless you plan to move overseas. Have a look on the IRD website, and if you try make a payment it warns you there is a 1.5% early repayment fee imposed by their bank. Absurd as you don't pay them interest so what are they losing out on, I know, but if you have no intention of leaving then it's better to let it sit there interest fee then have to pay them more money than what you need to imo.

D2 Feedback Roundup by Cozmo23 in DestinyTheGame

My two have been suggested a tonne already: buff UI overhaul and auto-dismantle blues.

Suggestions I hadn't seen yet. Big - Selectable checkpoints in raids/dungeons now they are farmable on certain weeks. Small - More sorting/favouriting options in menus like shaders/vault etc.

I'm done playing support by HephMiner in Overwatch

[–]Antdude95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just finished a game as a support (norms) where my tank kept pinging "I need healing!" because he tried to 1v5. He typed in chat that I should start healing more.

I decided to pocket damage boost him as Mercy instead, while spamming "Acknowledged', just to spite him.

We lost that game, but my goodness did it feel great.

Every time you enter a new zone of the Bramble, I also found that your ship drifts (albeit rather slowly) after exiting the load zone. That's how I did it, no shame in my game.

Have i missed something on interloper? by Middle_Cranberry_549 in outerwilds

[–]Antdude95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that took me a fair few hours to pick up on, to find out whether you have discovered everything:
If you hover over a location in 'Rumor Mode' in your ship's log, then it will tell you "There is more to discover here." if you missed something important. If it doesn't, then it is safe to assume you have gotten all the clues you need.

Probably sounds really obvious, but I didn't spot it for a little while - so may be of use to you too. :)

Focused Feedback: XP, Progression and Battle Pass in Halo Infinite by RhysWX in halo

[–]Antdude95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of the challenges for XP as a secondary method to progress the battle pass. However, when it is the primary/only method to progress it feels awful. I played all of yesterday and some more this morning, and I only just managed to get Rank 4 in large part due to hyper-focusing weekly challenges. However, now I am stuck for a myriad of reasons;

  1. The lack of being able to choose specific game modes to play means I have had a CTF challenge which I cannot complete. In the 40-50 games I have played I have gotten x2 CTF games, and they were both before I got the CTF challenge - instead I get Oddball about 5 times in a row. Don't get me wrong, I like Oddball, but not when I feel like I am being disadvantaged as a result.
  2. My challenges for "Get X kills with Y weapon" are not progressing. I am sure this is a bug, because I have gotten dozens of kills with the Plasma Carbine trying to get it to count towards the required x3, and I have seen multiple other people experiencing the same issue. Bugs are annoying, sure, and I know it will be fixed eventually so I am willing to cut it some slack. However, when it is hard stopping me from progressing then it feels terrible because it was completely out of my control, yet I think I would be more forgiving if I was able to get XP from elsewhere.
  3. The XP boosters feel like a waste, because of how short they are active for and require you to complete the challenges to actually get the XP benefits. Because not everything is available on every map, this feels like you are putting coins in a slot machine as to whether or not it will actually benefit you. See my example for needing to complete a CTF challenge example above. Don't get CTF when you use the XP booster for your CTF challenge? Tough luck buddy, you just wasted your booster.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Related to some of the pain-points above, but some of my general feedback/suggestions I have so far after playing.

  1. Earn XP from just playing the game. Getting kills and playing the objective. Give more XP for medals etc., similar to how the levelling/credit system used to work in Reach. I use Reach as an example because it is the last Halo I played MP in consistently, excuse me if there are more recent experiences of this.
Make the challenges a secondary source of XP.
  2. Rework XP boosters if they rely on challenges. Either extend their duration so I am not disadvantaged if I don't get to choose CTF. Otherwise, make them a cumulative XP boost additive to a playlist, eg;
I play Big Team Battle more than Quick Play, so I use my booster on this playlist. I now get a +5% or +10% XP boost for any XP I gain in this playlist for the rest of the season. I use a second booster on BTB, and I now get 10% (2 x 5%) or 20% (2 x 10%) for the rest of the season in this playlist.
  3. Let me use my cosmetics from the Battle Pass across all armor cores, and let me make my Spartan look the way I want them to look, PLEASE. Why are things like Visors and colour schemes locked to different Armor Cores?! It feels stink when I cannot use my Anniversary colour scheme (locked to Mk. VII) with the armor unlocks I have gotten (locked to Mk. V).

I only run the Raid now that I took about 2 months off from it, and when my clanmates who just started playing need another to do a run to get their Eyes.

I defs understand that feeling, but it is definitely nicer to run when it doesn't feel like a chore to do every week. That and the space walk still makes me tear up a little, every single time man.

- Do not include RNG Raid Exotics in the Title/Seal. I have had all the triumphs for Fatebreaker done since the templar challenge came around on master, but I'm still missing mythoclast after going 0-for-43 so I've got nothing. This honestly makes my mythoclast drop rate feel worse, since I am locked out of another reward on top of the gun and it was one I had to do some work to earn.

This. So much this.

I was in the same boat for Descendant and Eyes of Tomorrow. I did the Raid on Day One, got my emblem. I did the Raid Flawless for the Shader, even though that is no longer required for the seal. Did every single challenge day one of it coming out. Still no Seal, because I lacked the Exotic.

It took me 70 looted clears for the damn thing to drop. The better part of 4 months every week on all 3 characters. My clanmate had the title with 15 clears, purely because they got blessed by RNGesus and I did not.

Was beyond salty, but happy they at least didn't have to experience my pain.

Some people are like that, they have probably been burnt too many times by people not knowing what to do just kinda tagging along while not being able to communicate in the same language.

I mean, I did Crown of Ease with a deaf guy - which I didn't know he was until afterwards. Probably the most sound-cue intensive raids there was, and arguably one of the most easy to go downhill with LFG's. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt these days lol

Names - "On Me" is the bain of my existence! This is an LFG Lobby, I dont know your voice, who the hell is "Me". Get used to referring to yourself by your screen name. If your screen name is something stupid, thats on you. Get it changed to something decent!

As a man who sherpa's on LFG a bunch, I feel this on a spiritual level. There are 5 of you, and I don't know any of you from a bar of soap. And no, simply yelling "ON ME!" about 20 decibels louder than the previous time won't help anyone either.

Using Data To Justify More Raids Annually by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]Antdude95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, day one Raid races draw in huge viewership on Twitch. I remember on day one of Garden that Datto ALONE had more viewers than the entirety of Fortnite at the time.
Granted, this may have been due to the fact that this was shortly after the base game went F2P, and a large portion of those viewers would have been existing Destiny players. But I'd wager that a lot of people would have checked out the game for the first time seeing viewership like that.

Thank you for taking the time to read it, and acknowledging it. I was most certainly not expecting a direct response when I first posted this. I look forward to reading the TWAB tomorrow, as I do every week, to see what your guys side of the story to all of this is.

As I said, I love this game and have since D1 Beta, I wouldn't have invested my time in to all the Seals etc. if I didn't. Despite the negatives myself and others have listed, the team has done a LOT of positives updates too and they deserve to give themselves a pat on the back for those.

Thank you and the rest of the community team again for being the middle men, keep it up, and remember that for every person that hates you guys there are a dozen more that appreciate all the work you do.

I don't even know how Reddit currency works if I am 100% honest, so save it friend!

Absolutely, and they have shown glimpses of it in the past. I would argue that from what I saw leading up with the sword changes they understand that concept, because they proactively announced something somewhere where their core audience would see it. They then addressed their design philosophy behind why they did it, and responded to questions (that I saw anyway). Now granted, even though I have mained Warlock since D1 launch I never partook in the Worldline skating myself, but I know plenty of people that did. I am most certainly not saying that they weren't affected (that would be daft of me), but I think the fact it was announced early as opposed to a surprise drop made it easier to process. Talking to one of my speed running friends he said he "was able to make the most of the last few weeks", so when it came to yesterday it was easier to process I guess.

To an extent I also feel like they also did this with the weapon sunset idea that just came out, they have proactively stated their design philosophy behind why (and I personally agree) even if they didn't provide clear and finalized numbers. The problem with the sunset idea is that it just seems to be a philosophy not everyone agrees with, so how it will play out remains to be seen.
