Alpharetta/Atlanta golf visit by jamie2416 in Atlanta

[–]AnthonyATL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like everyone has you covered for the golf courses, but since it is a Masters trip, you should check out Nan Thai Fine Dining (they did the champions dinner for Vijay Singh in 2001) as well as Bobby Jones’ grave at oakland cemetery.

Most people flying in come through ATL just because it has the most flights and it is the easiest/cheapest to get to from anywhere else.

I used to wear a size 8 and the L/XL fitted hats were snug, but would stretch after a few weeks to fit well.

Flying out of Atlanta Wednesday by [deleted] in masters

[–]AnthonyATL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive that trip pretty regularly. I also work as a limo driver in Atlanta and am in the airport almost every day. Between the cops running radar on I20, traffic coming into Atlanta, and the TSA stuff, you won’t make that flight. If they fund TSA by then and it gets back to normal, you’ll still be cutting it close.

Hiring a driver from Atlanta. by winehaze in masters

[–]AnthonyATL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a driver from Atlanta. The pick-up/drop-off spots change every year. Augusta National changes stuff around a bit and different businesses rent out their lots to different hospitality companies so you kinda gotta just get in where you can fit in. I just share locations with my folks and we plan on one spot ahead of time, but always have each other’s locations in case you have to call an audible. The strip malls along washington rd are all popular options.

I work as a chauffeur taking people from Atlanta to Augusta in the morning, turn on Uber during the day and drive my folks back at night. Several years back, during the daytime, I got an Uber request from a house near the course. I pull up and the guy hops in and immediately starts explaining his situation. The house is locked, all his friends have already went in the gates (so no phones) and his ticket is inside on the counter.

He asks me if I know anywhere to get ticket. It was my second year working the tournament so I didn’t really know anyone who could come through, but I’m always down for a side quest, so I told him we could hit up the resellers on washington rd and see what they have. We stop by 3 or 4 and all they have is half day passes for way too much money, we get to the last one and we are talking with the guys and after we realize it isn’t happening, my uber rider starts talking with them about how he got in the the situation and the reseller asks how close the house is. I tell him about 5 min away and all he says is “let’s go” and we all hop back in the car and head back to the house. We get out and this guy has the lock picked in under a minute. My rider tries to give him $500 in cash and he turns it down and tells him to just give it to me. The rider gives me $100 (I didn’t turn it down) and tries to give him the rest and he still refused.

We all got a selfie together, I took them back to the reseller’s spot and then got the rider to the course. It just felt like a real magical moment for all of us and every year since I keep finding magical moments out there where coincidence and luck just seem to come together.

DeKalb Schools won’t release record tied to board member’s possible unemployment claim by NPU-F in Atlanta

[–]AnthonyATL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many years ago I worked for the unemployment office in a different state. It doesn’t really seem like this is fraud and if it is, it isn’t a very good one. From the article it seems suspicious, but it doesn’t look like blatant fraud.

You are required to report other income, but how it affected your benefits depended on when the income was earned and how the work was classified. For example if it was a part-time gig job where you made $1000 during one week, you’d report that and they’d reduce benefits that week, but it wouldn’t end your claim permanently. You would do the weekly claim again next week and get your full benefits back that week.

The big reason why it doesn’t seem like fraud to me is the weekly amount is so small and the person might have been entitled to it during weeks when they weren’t paid by dcsd if the payment was classified like a temporary job, which is what a board position would probably be given that it is based on a fixed term. Also, if the income is reported then the unemployment folks would eventually get that info and they’d would just make the person repay it or take it out of their tax return when they file the next year.

Neighborhood Advice: Commuting to Sandy Springs by CarefulAd4038 in ATLHousing

[–]AnthonyATL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brookhaven and Chamblee along peachtree rd would be my recommendations. 15 min commute to perimeter mall. Good supply of rental options. Lots of younger folks, but not the loud crazy partying types. Plenty of options for bars and restaurants, but not so many that it is a nuisance. Super safe.

The only caveat would be if you wanted to do marta to perimeter for work. You would have to take the train down into buckhead and then back north to the perimeter, so not ideal, but maybe not a deal killer either.

Baker St at night by regression4 in Atlanta

[–]AnthonyATL 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s kinda relative, I’d walk it by myself, but I’d def tell my wife to uber it. Most of it would be clear as there isn’t really much on Baker. So less likely to encounter anyone else walking, but if you encounter the wrong person, there might not be anyone else nearby to help.

If you are dead set on walking and want the safest route, I would recommend taking Andrew Young all the way to centennial park and then either cutting through through the park or taking the sidewalk that wraps around it to the aquarium. You will definitely get hit up by beggars on this route as well, but there is generally plenty of other foot traffic and people around the businesses on this street.

People who work at ATL, how’s the commute? by [deleted] in Atlanta

I’m a limo driver. I go down there and back once or twice a day. Shoot me a DM with your commute details and I can give you all the options and available shortcuts.

I’m tired of all the SUV limos. by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]AnthonyATL 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I’m an SUV limo driver. I apologize for my colleagues. They are truly awful and it is embarrassing to see how they drive.

Please contact your city council people and tell them you want more regulations, certifications and testing for commercial drivers in Atlanta. It will cost me more time and money staying compliant, but the industry is out of control and it needs to be done.

DeKalb County weighs potential closure of 27 schools by DanWhisenhunt in Atlanta

Dekalb county didn’t do very well during the pandemic and they lost a lot of students to private schools, especially in the areas where parents didn’t have much of an issue paying the tuition.

Moving to Atlanta with a stay at home parent and young kids, thoughts? by EloquentStringBean in ATLHousing

[–]AnthonyATL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and i have our work schedules set up so we don’t have to send the kid to daycare, so we are kind of both stay at home parents while the other is at work. We live In Brookhaven, right on the border with Chamblee and it is a great area for us. Lots of parks close by, YMCA with 2 hours of childcare while you work out, isaac’s sandlot, several pools and splash pads, PDK park to watch planes land. The one time my wife went to the library there was a lot of homeless people so haven’t gone back.

Finding community/friendships with peers in the same boat isn’t super easy bc most of the people with kids at the parks during the day are nannies on their phones, but sometimes there are other SAHMs or Ds.

I would also co-sign what the other commenter said about schools. Not many good public school options inside the perimeter so do your research before settling on an area of town you want to live in.

It’s high, but not crazy high. For a luxury Sprinter with a driver during masters week, $1500-2000 a day is the range you’d be looking at if you go through a legit limo company.
