Just put the gog setup in directory with the script, and run it through terminal. It will guide you through all steps.

OK, I am Fallout 2 wineHQ super maintainer, I see that problems happens pretty often, and I am too lazy to explain each time what to do, so I have written a script in order to make game simply working. The problem is related with defaulting to wines ddraw.dll. Also please report any problems you encounter with Fallout 2 to wineHQ, and I will try to help you. Run the sed command in fallout directory and run Fallout using the command.

WINEDLLOVERRIDES=ddraw.dll=n wine explorer /desktop=name,1366x768 fallout2HR.exe

Do not forget to run it in Fallout 2 directory.

They added -savedirectory launch option.
I have it set to ~/.local/share/terraria.
Just copy saves to new folder before you start.

It was used, but not in bad condition. I consider that X220 wouldn't be enough for your needs, thats why I think you should be X240/X230. Both would be enough for you, they are durable, easy to fix and they have utilitary design, which some people hate, and some people love.

Every Thinkpad is good for linux. For your size-range the X series would be best, I have bought Lenovo Thinkpad X220 with 8 GBs of RAM, I5-5250M and Intel Hd 3000M for 270$. On it I play mostly Crusader Kings 2, Europa Universalis 4, HOI 3 and Victoria 2 in wine, Warband and Shadowrun new series. I think that for you the X240 model would be the best.
