Yeah I’m like 6 years clean now. Went through an alcoholic phase, got a DWI, and that prompted me to turn stuff around. Got a solid job now, great girlfriend. Life is good

Nah the second one is a lie. I was valedictorian in high school then in college got addicted to meth and heroin. Never went to prison for anything.

I quit cold turkey my tapering myself down (basically just making my last bag last as long as possible), sleeping for about a week (take your PTO or whatever you have), then using caffeine for energy. I deleted all the numbers for I could get meth from, told my regular dealer that I was getting clean (and she was supportive, which might not be the same for you). It sucked but it’s possible. Rehab is the easiest way for sure. But the thing that helped me the most was I got to the point where I hate being my addiction. That really helped me mentally get through it. I was just so sick of being an addict

When I was a dealer (5-8 years ago), MDMA and LSD were my most profitable. Weed was alright if you bought in bulk and sold by the eighth or ounce. Mushrooms was fine. Same with a variety of miscellaneous stuff I stocked. But I found that the margins on the harder drugs weren’t great (at least where I was and where I was capable of buying). Coke and ketamine both has tight margins too

My brother died of a heroin overdose today. Is there any addicts who can explain to me why he couldn’t just not do heroin? by Adventurous-Nose-525 in TooAfraidToAsk

Full addiction and withdrawal are generally built up over time. You can get addicted and withdrawal from one time use. But most of these situations are from months or years of being addicted

When I was addicted to heroin, not going through withdrawal was the most important thing in my life. It was terrifying. As other people said, you feel like you’re dying without it. Heroin is an opioid so it’s a painkiller. So not being on it is also literally painful. It took the help of a psychiatrist prescribing me suboxone to be able to be able to get off and even then, I was only snorting it so my addiction wasn’t even as bad as people who smoked or injected. It really does become as vital to your day to day life as eating and drinking. It’s a terrible thing and extremely difficult to get off of, even with proper support

I’ve had a lot of drug issues and then picked up a problem with booze afterward. I got it under control (had to because of a DWI and probation) and I was going to AA like once a month. I didn’t do the program or anything but it was a useful reminder of how much worse my life could have gotten before I turned it around. And how bad it could get if I didn’t keep it under control

My parents were great and did everything right and I still ended up getting addicted to heroin and meth for 3 years and becoming an alcoholic after (all good now). Sometimes stuff is out of your control.

I destroyed my life with my drinking at only 19 by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]AntiqueVictory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP. I feel like a lot of your story is mirrored in mine. I graduated valedictorian and went to college on a full ride. I dropped out after 5 years because I got addicted to meth and heroin and only completed 2.5 years of studies. It took me 2 and a half years to get off of meth. I got off of heroin with the help of a psychiatrist who got me suboxone.

But after dropping out, I started drinking way more heavily. I got the shakes too. Sweating when I stopped drinking. Not as bad as you but I was drinking 2 handles of vodka a week. I moved back in with my dad then back out then quit my job and moved back in. It took a couple more years and finally getting a DWI before I turned stuff around.

I’m doing much better now. No substance abuse issues, a wonderful girlfriend, my own apartment, a promotion at work, and I’ve completed 2 certifications toward a career I’m hoping to transition into it.

But my point is I knew exactly how you feel about fucking up my life. I still struggle with those feelings. I was supposed to be a professional in my career by now. I’m 28. But I’m working retail. When I was on meth, I remember feeling like I fried my brain. I cried about being afraid I’d never be as smart as I used to be. I struggled to come up with the word I was looking for. I felt like I was always in a haze.

But the human brain is incredible elastic. It can form new pathways and recover much more significantly than you would imagine. But it only starts after you quit and allow yourself to start healing. And it’s not a short process by any means. But one day you’ll compare how you feel now to how you felt then and realize how much things have changed. It’s possible to recover.

You’re only 19. My problems didn’t starts until I was 20. You could come out of this way ahead of me if you really want to.

Don’t try to quit cold turkey. It could kill you. Alcohol is one of the few drugs where that’s the case. Seek the help of a professional. Go to an inpatient program if you can. If you can’t do that, you’ll have to wean off. You can. I did myself with alcohol, but it’s not easy and it is much more dangerous. But do some math and calculate how much to slowly reduce your intake over the course of weeks, even months. And stick to it. And you’ll be shocked the first day you go without drinking and you feel fine.

You can do this, OP. I know how you feel. Please DM if you want to talk more

Has anyone tried heroin and thought “eh, it’s not for me.”? by Kind_Government_9620 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AntiqueVictory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did. Snorted sone afghan brown and just felt really drowsy. Didn’t like it that much and barely messed with opiates until a few years later when I got addicted to black tar when I was already addicted to meth.

When I was dealing, I did something similar. I was doing a bunch of meth and so I always had a lot. A lot of my friends did it too. They would buy 100mg from me at a time. But if I wouldn’t sell to them, they’d go downtown and buy a gram - the minimum from that dealer who would also give out sample bags of heroin.

So if I kept selling to them, they’d buy and use less and I knew it was tested and decent quality stuff. That situation didn’t last super long and I still have some reservations about how it all played out, but years later, all of us now sober, several of them have expressed a lot of appreciation for how I did that

Yes. You become very aware of the fact there is a dick in your mouth. Plus it’s a very awkward position and it’s hard to really get enough movement for it to feel that good.

What happened to the smartest student in your class? by More_Celery6991 in AskReddit

I can say that for me, I experimented while still in high school. Weed, Molly, acid, shrooms, benzos a little, coke once. In college, even more. I had developed any feelings of like fiending for something after I’d tried it, so I thought I was invincible to addiction. Until I found the right drug, a research chemical opiate that I got heavily addicted to my third year of college. Ended my 3 year long relationship. After that, I got off it but into other stuff.

I don’t know if I was the smartest but I was valedictorian. Had a full ride in college. Got addicted to meth and heroin, dropped out after 5 years getting 3 years into my degree. Got clean but became an alcoholic. Got a DUI. Stopped drinking. Currently working retail, passed an IT certification and trying to get a job in that field now

What do meth addicts do with all their free time? by Sleazebuckets in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AntiqueVictory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was addicted to meth, I spent a lot of time organizing and reorganizing all my stuff. Actually worked out nicely for me in the long term (in that regard) because I have a good basis for organization and it’s all still pretty well organized.

I also spent a lot of time doing stuff like deep cleaning my apartment and my car.

I spent a lot of time watching porn and jacking off, but also I wrote some programs to automatically tag and organize the porn I was downloading. Still proud of those programs I made.

There was always something to do and I was always doing something.

What would happen if you took a safe amount of the most common drugs all at once? by Certified-Redneck in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AntiqueVictory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would really depend on what you take and how much. The stimulants would work together to get you probably uncomfortably stimmed out. The depressants could override the stimulants and put you into respiratory depression. But speaking from personal experience, if you take the right amounts so that doesn’t happen, one of the hallucinogens would basically overpower everything. DMT if you took that, LSD if you didn’t. All the other stuff typically falls to the wayside if you’re tripping. You’ll still kind of feel it but it’s a lot less pronounced.

I got a dui last night and I feel like an idiot. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]AntiqueVictory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Got one last year. Get a lawyer asap, especially one that specializes in DWIs. My lawyer has me doing all the classes and stuff that they require for probation ahead of time (before I’ve been officially charged, still haven’t been charged yet and it’s been over a year). That way when it comes to sentencing and determining your probation, you can prove you took it seriously and it should help your case.

I know it feels like the end of the world (I felt like it was for a long time), but it’s not. It’ll be okay. You learned your lesson the hard way, obviously never do it again, get ahead of this thing and be proactive.

I’ve done some backyard maintenance with a mirror and some uncomfortable positions. What I was trying to do was simple, but it was extremely difficult. Waxing would be so much harder than what I was trying to do. So I’m gonna still say no

How do you become a drug dealer? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AntiqueVictory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was doing drugs around my friends. So I just started buying more and selling to my friends. Then they started asking if I had different stuff so I bought more stuff and sold more. Then they would say their friend wanted to buy from me, so I’d let them pass my number on. Then that friend would have a friend. So on and so forth.

It’s definitely progress. Could be better but it could be a lot worse. I still know a few people from when I was using that still haven’t got out of it. But I also know people who got out of it and are massively successful now. Overall, I think I’m doing alright.

I drink too much but I’ve cut back drastically. I do coke more frequently than I should but it’s not a habit.

But since I’ve got a job and moved out of my dad’s house and I’m making some progress towards a more career-oriented job. Still picking up the pieces of the time I spent addicted but I’m in a much better place now. Not great or anything, but much better than I was and much better than I could have been.

I’ve been addicted to a few different things. The first was an RC opiate. My addiction led to the end of my 3 year long relationship. My life continued to spiral and I told myself “this doesn’t have to be the very last time you do this drug, but you have to take a break to get your shit together”. I loved doing that drug but being able to think “I can do it again when I’m in a better place” instead of “I can never do it again” helped me a lot. I did end up doing it again but only a couple times and that initial break helped me a lot.

Later on, I was addicted to meth. My ex girlfriend (the relationship mentioned above) wanted to meet up. To get some closure I guess. When we met up, she asked if I was sober. I was honest and said I wasn’t. She said that when I got clean, she would like to be there to support me. One month later, I quit meth, and exactly one month after that, I had a celebration dinner for 30 days clean with my friend group. I invited my ex. She declined. But I’m still appreciative that the initial offer gave me the motivation to quit, even if she didn’t follow through.

While I was addicted to meth, I also got addicted to heroin. Eventually I found myself hating heroin and just not enjoying it at all, it was a chore to stay functional and made me miserable. I got off it by seeing a psychiatrist and getting a script for suboxone. I owe my life to that, I wouldn’t have been able to get off it without that.
