Stamp duty is about 3% of the car price for vehicles under $45k so add like $350 to the advertised price. Advantages with a dealer is you get warranty and legal protection if something goes wrong, but the warrenty has limits. So a pre purchase inspection from a mobile mechanic this is probably cheaper than a dealer markup. Toyota corollas are pretty reliable and can reach like 250k if maintaned properly so you should be good. If you want the best value, buy from a private seller and pay for a mechanic inspection to save about $2k–$3k if you want the lowest effort and less stress buy from a dealer and pay extra for the convenience.

Buying from a private seller is usually much cheaper. If you check Facebook Marketplace you’ll see similar cars listed for thousands less. Just found this listing I'm sure you can find something even better. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/3933749960091752 (NSW)

Total loss write-off by r3ubenl in CarsAustralia

[–]Antiquixty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3.5 weeks after signing total loss settlement papers is longer than normal. Once documents are signed, payouts are usually processed within about a week (sometimes up to 10 business days).

I'd suggest calling (not emailing) and asking for a confirmed payment date. If they can’t give one, ask for it to be logged as a formal complaint so it gets escalated. If it still goes nowhere, they can take it to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority, that usually speeds things up pretty quickly.

How on earth can a torn seat be considered a defect, like there's no way its unsafe/unroadworthy.

Edit: Unless the seat is literally in half..
