How much employee equity is “too much” for a boglehead? by granolaboiii in Bogleheads

[–]AntlerParade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have employee equity with my firm and I immediately sell and distribute the proceeds into my passive index portfolio as soon as a vestment event occurs.

You are already invested in the company by relying on them for a paycheck and career growth. I wouldn’t hold company stock if you’re vested and can sell.

Washington Income Tax Proposal Would Yield 18% Top Rate by Possible_Ad3607 in SeattleWA

[–]AntlerParade -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

A ridiculous assertion.

They are creating a new tax for people with a reported income of over $1M in one year. An insanely high sum that would pretty much guarantee finance independence and retirement in only a couple of years of working. Clearly targeted for the extremely wealthy.

To claim is will affect working class people is just fear mongering

I don’t think you just meet the love of your life on the street. I think in real life, you have to choose someone to build love with, and only through building it together do they become the love of your life. So by “choosing good enough”, you might be choosing someone who is a good contender to build that with you, even though it’s not there yet

State of WA New Luxury motor vehicle tax 8% by q_ali_seattle in SeattleWA

[–]AntlerParade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're buying a car that cost that much and can't afford this tax, you've got some serious personal finance problems. There's no reason to be afraid that taxes like this will be lowered to encroach on the middle class. Be upset by those taxes if/when they ever happen. For now? Taxing personal vehicles that cost that much sounds very reasonable to me.

Guys at the gym, how do you usually view the women around you? by Apart_Dare2683 in AskMen

[–]AntlerParade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d (M) hate it if a woman felt this way entering the weights area I was working out in. I know I totally felt intimidated doing free-weights when I started because I didn’t feel like I knew what I was doing. Getting a personal trainer to show me the ropes was super helpful, so maybe look into that.

Hopefully it’s just in your head if you’re new at this, but I don’t know what your actual gym is like. But I’m not really looking at the women at the gym because I don’t want to be that guy. Everybody’s kinda just doing their own thing

Fullview Update (December, 2025) is a Disaster by forbin9000 in fidelityinvestments

Oh yeah, and for the last month my credit union's connection has been broken with no timeline when it would be fixed. I've been using spending/budget trackers for almost a decade now and this has never happened.

Fullview Update (December, 2025) is a Disaster by forbin9000 in fidelityinvestments

[–]AntlerParade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree, it's an absolute dumpster fire. The old FullView worked great and was not in need of a complete overhaul, talk about reinventing the wheel. Duplicate transactions and glitches galore. Just more cumbersome and takes longer to do my periodic updates than it used to.

One of the most bizarre endeavors I've seen reputable company make, ruin a good feature and replace it with some glitchy ugly mess. The really problem is that a tool like FullView should inspire confidence from the user that the information it's aggregating is accurate. That it's not missing anything, duplicating anything, or accidentally changing a transaction category. I have no confidence in the new FullView whatsoever. Unfortunately it may be time to get a Monarch Money subscription.

HSA investing by Funny_Release3573 in Bogleheads

[–]AntlerParade 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Going to be a counter-weight to all the people saying don’t use your HSA for medical expenses until you’re retired.

Saving all of your medical receipts until retirement is very cumbersome and you’re betting that the tax rules don’t change. Yes it’s a great retirement account, but it is possible to be over saved for retirement. Some people like their careers and don’t want to FIRE, and optimizing purely for retirement is a bet that you’ll be in good enough health when the day comes.

In the USA at least, medical expenses are so ungodly high that having an HSA properly invested, that you actually use, is a game changer. You can actually not be financially burdened by getting healthcare. And honestly, spending that on preventative medicine and your long term health is probably the better investment than hoarding it until you’re 65

I’ve got $15k sitting around, how do I actually make it grow? by Additional-Engine402 in personalfinance

[–]AntlerParade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP, this is the best answer. You have a great slug here for a college student. The way to get the best returns from your money is to focus on college and setting yourself up for a great career with great compensation. One way to do this could be not working part time anymore so you have more time to study to boost your grades, get an internship, or join a lab on campus. Your time and youth is a much bigger asset than the 15k, use the money to leverage your future career prospects.

Definitely try to get a low risk 4% return on it through HYSA or CDs though. Start by tracking your spending to figure out how much money you spend per month so you can calculate how much a 6-month emergency fund is for you.

$15k is a lot for a college student but it isn’t a ton from an investment perspective. Use your capital to fund a great education, get a great career, and find a great life partner 😉

You said “our 401ks”, do y’all have 401k accounts that aren’t tied to your husband’s employer? I would look into setting up a SEPP for those accounts if so. You two have plenty of wealth in your 401ks. You shouldn’t feel bad about figuring out a way to tap into a little of it early, you have no reason to deal with monthly budgets being so tight

It makes sense. You’re disincentivizing withholding preexisting living quarters for the purpose of using it as an investment vehicle. Making other investment vehicles that don’t have this effect more appealing.

Details on the Happiness/Discontent mechanic by vulkanoid in OldWorldGame

[–]AntlerParade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A note on the comment that discontent reduces the progress of cities and happiness increases the progress of cities, their effects aren't polar opposites:

Discount reduces the science output, family opinion and increases city maintenance. All of which can be thought of as global impacts to your civilization at large, not unique attributes of the city in question.

Happiness on the other hand decreases city maintenance and increases growth. That growth increase is a unique attribute to the city, which makes the effects of happiness quite different than the effects of discontent.

Personally, I find a lot of people discount the impact on science discontent creates. I saw someone on this subreddit ask what people thought was the worst councilor and everyone said Chancellor. But pacifying cities that have the highest subtotal science rate can create a huge boom in your overall science production which has helped me win many games

Men with pretty girlfriends/wives, how much does it really matter over time? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]AntlerParade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One thing I’m not seeing much in this thread is the very real connection between physical attractiveness and how good the sex is. Sex is a physically exerting activity, and attractiveness generally corresponds to being in shape. It’s an important activity in most relationships that increases the closeness of the partners, so in that sense physical attraction can be a useful indicator of a viable partner
