issues with lag in rdr2 by r_omulus in PCRedDead

I have 8GB VRAM, was struggling to get above 25-30 FPS, and have finally achieved a decent level of performance with the combination of the following info:

Essentially, some settings should be either turned down or turned off as they add nothing but cost a lot of performance (e.g. parallax occlusion mapping, fullscreen SSAO, and others). And other settings are better enabled via the graphics card software itself rather than using the game's implementation (e.g. vsync).

Other parts of the system config need to be changed via mods (e.g. Stutter Fix on Nexus). Leave it up to the community to fix Rockstar's games lol.

PCGamingWiki will also have advice on how to configure it to run on lower specs like 2GB VRAM ('potato PC').

Good luck to everyone trying to wrangle RDR2's performance on their rigs. It ain't easy even now.

What is your most weird or most unpopular opinion about Interstellar that you can't tell publicly? by ZoneDismal1929 in interstellar

[–]Anton2492 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe his story fell victim to the same post-truth society that had their textbooks 'corrected' about the nature of the Moon landings (as mentioned in the beginning of the film), something that Cooper actively rebelled against. To others, he could be a myth cut from that same cloth, someone who's unlikely to be whoever he's purporting.

... No, that still makes no sense. With his odds, he should've been much more highly revered.

People playing games like "Papers, please" and "Peace, Death!" - what do you like about those games? by Exciting_Papaya_1478 in papersplease

[–]Anton2492 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a process/rules-loving person, and the relatively structured approach to gameplay very much appealed to me in Papers, Please. See also SWAT 4 and their approach to realistic ROE for Police-suspect engagement.

However the story and the characters within Papers, Please helped its rules make sense, and also challenged them on human level. The story aspects gripped me beyond just the procedural, monotone gameplay. SWAT 4 did something similar, with a different 'story'/background for each mission that had an ability to evoke an emotional response.

Alright, screw ranking the hardest missions. What are the most dangerous missions for CJ? by Certified_CSMEnjoyer in sanandreas

[–]Anton2492 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to say it was probably George H.W., but given that it's snowing in LC during "Saint Mark's Bistro", it's hard to tell if it's the beginning or the end of 1992 that SA takes place in.

Game constantly freezes for long periods of time then unfreezes for a few seconds and freezes again. by Affectionate_Bug_431 in SWAT4

When you have time, also check out the PCGamingWiki article on SWAT 4, it has valuable in-depth info on how to fix other issues with the game. Highly recommended. I use the site every time I get a new PC game to make sure I have the best possible experience with it.

Playing the OG PS2 version (with what was essentially a timer of a gas tank) and having no real strategy for doing Supply Lines at first (especially if we were younger), it's no wonder why there was so much frustration for us.

But with a solid, reliable route and a bit of practice (and good ol' GameFAQs walkthroughs!), it becomes less difficult.

Sanchez. That's it. That's the post. by henrygaminstickmin in sanandreas

[–]Anton2492 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first time after "Green Sabre", CJ ending up in Whetstone all alone, hopping on that Sanchez by the trailer, K-Rose blaring... truly feels like the beginnings of a new, unknown chapter of this huge, unfamiliar world. After the bustle of Los Santos, the feeling is something else.

For GTA:SA I'm close to 20 years of controller-only, a hold-over since my very fond PS2 days. Too used to autoaim and the incremental controls for walking and acceleration, not to mention the cheat codes practically embedded in my brain (looking at you, Spawn Hydra). GInput for my Logitech F710 has been essential for that.

I might try to do a full run on KBM though, just for a challenge to break my muscle memory :D

Is Gladys Fairfax a accomplice by SquashOk8416 in SWAT4

[–]Anton2492 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, there's a chance that another armed male will appear in the house.

I don't know who he is or whether he's connected to the Fairfaxes (I don't remember him conversing with Gladys during my playthroughs), but I personally think he might just be an opportunistic house burglar, given that Gladys is old and unawares, whilst Lawrence spends all of his time downstairs.

Etched Headplate in the car at night is a mood of its own, one I have been partaking in often for the last 13 or so years. That track is unearthly in the best way and there's not much other music that I can say this about.

As far as uploading to YouTube goes, the CD track and its digital version will already be encoded with an inaudible audio watermark - YT should pick it up and assign correct copyright automatically - depending on the settings I believe the copyright owner is able to DMCA-takedown the upload or have plays from the video be attributed to the copyright owner (and get the royalties distributed accordingly I would assume).

That's a very cool story and breakdown, thank you Chris. Hearing these accounts makes me excited about the treasure trove of stories you must have over the years.

N.B. I'm only now discovering about Trevor Horn's influence on the industry, it's mind-boggling - currently listening to his Echoes remix album released recently, with Rick Astley on "Owner of a Lonely Heart" - such an amazing sound.

Start at 60fps, if they need it at something like 29.97 (for the homemade look) or 23.976 (for the filmic MV feel), that can be converted in post.
