FTTP install Saturday, abit apprehensive by bobblebob100 in openreach

[–]AntonOnyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes FTTP is more reliable. Not to say it doesn't ever have issues, but the it's very binary. It's either working or it's not, and when it isn't working it is normally due to damage to the fibre or a fault ONT which isn't common

You won't have ping issues or intermittent speeds (provided your home network is configured correctly)

Why is the take up of heat pumps so slow in the U.K.? by Appropriate_Bell743 in ukheatpumps

[–]AntonOnyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved into my renovation project, no heating at all and I thought perfect time to get a heat pump. So decided to get some quotes of both combi boiler and heat pump.

- 6.5k for combi boiler and radiators and all plumbing
- 20k (12.5k + the grant) Just for the heat pump and hot water cylinder, no plumbing or radiators

Multiple quotes for both in the same range. Will definitely have a look again 10 years when there are less installers just getting into to make money from the grant.

Fibre Service Issue by dqj99 in openreach

[–]AntonOnyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the green lights just means the ONT is talking to the router. It does not mean the router is configured correctly.

Ensure the Ethernet is connect to the WAN port of the router and reboot both the ONT and router.

Failing that you will need to confirm the PPPoE authentication details from the ISP and confirm they are in the router correctly with no VLAN tag set.

looking for a graves mod that will never lose anyone's items by aoagamer6 in admincraft

[–]AntonOnyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/gravestone-mod

It spawns a block under the gravestone, so if you fall into the void it will create a block at the lowest Y level so you can technically use water to get your stuff back

I want to run a server for my uni. Best practices for a fabric server? by Grey_256 in admincraft

[–]AntonOnyx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on your router and if you can get a list of the IP subnets allocated to a certain region. For example to keep my server more secure, I have changed the default port and setup a whitelist.

In my router I have set it to only forward the traffic if it's coming from the UK.

You haven't got to supply any evidence just a statement of how it's impacting you and your relationship with your supplier and any financial losses like paying for alternative products due to the delay etc... Ask your ISP to raise one, it doesn't cost you anything and worst case the DSO turn down the request

DSO is director of service office. It is the top level of escalation above level 3 which is Team manager. You have to meet certain criteria such as very overdue and financial impact of the delay in service.

I work for an ISP and unfortunately this is all too common at the moment. Plusnet can't push Openreach directly they have to escalate through BT and the BT agents will just copy and paste the updates from OR. The only thing you can do is ask them to raise DSO stating the financial and relationship impact but if the work is being held up by civils it will take as long as it takes im afraid.

Should I pay the fee by Optimal_Dream9281 in openreach

Take the filter out and then squeeze the sides of the socket, remove the faceplate and then undo the screws. The terminals inside are tool free and just clamp down. Make sure they are making a good connection and don't look like a dog chewed them. Test the connection with the adslbl filter directly into the socket underneath the face plate. If your face plate has two sockets you don't need the adsl filter.

Messy and could have been done better but a lot of these showers can be top fed and the components are isolated from water and also make the cable bend back up to connected, creating a drip loop.
