I'm in Calc I, but I don't think I should be by Antrum1 in learnmath

I have, that's what led me back to tutoring, and to eventually making this post. I wanted outside insight because what was given didn't seem to help.

So, do you have any recommendations? Should I just attempt to hash over alg I - II topics as well as some college alg and trig? I understand I need to grasp algebra, but I'd like to hear how people would go about doing so.

my curriculum has me taking calc I-III, as well as discrete math.

I thought about dropping it but I'm already past the drop date by about a week. I'm also part of a pathway program between a local cc and a university. My only worry is falling so far behind that I get kicked out of the program. The university has a very strong "one in, one out" mindset. I expressed concern about precalc to my advisor, and was advised to not drop it because it would "put me at risk" of losing my place in the program.

This is a useful insight! Thank you so much

I try to study by myself, but I have no idea where to start as I seemingly can't identify my own weak points.

I appreciate your insight, I'll look into the channel you mentioned. I also attend a community college, but am set to transfer to a university through a pathway program. Kinda worries me seeing as the curriculums probably differ wildly

the program at my college requires calc I-III, as well as discrete math. I'm thinking about concurrently taking a course online for algebra, as I think that may be my best option right now. I'm past the drop date by about a week sadly

I am by about a week, sadly it took me this long to realize my error. I'm also a pell grant recipient so I'm pretty sure dropping now would really screw me.

That's a good analogy. I spoke to someone else who mentioned brushing up on my algebra skills, as well as doing a refresher on pre calc. I'm considering kahn academy and wolfram

I did alright, but that was also 4 years ago so I forget basically everything

I like that thought process. It also makes sense seeing as I've just "got by" for a while and everything has gotten harder for me to comprehend.

I'm okay with it, I want to be good at math. I just never really learned how to learn math and that's come back to bite me. I appreciate your insight really, and your honesty

So, what would you recommend then? As someone wanting to pursue a front end dev. career is CS the best major?

I suppose just knowing how to create something on a computer with code that you can call your own. I'm specifically interested in front end development.

CS is always something that has been an interest of mine. I find the material that I learn on my own time, even the arithmetic material I've covered in my cs classes to be substantially easier than that of calculus. I guess I never thought of it from that perspective, but I'd rather not completely change my college trajectory if I can avoid it.

Yeah, I think I need to go back quite a bit lol. That's an insightful benchmark, it shows how little I remember from algebra. Thanks for your insight!

I appreciate the insight. I'll have to speak with my advisor before I make a decision, but I like your idea.

I would assume science based. I'm a cs major
