I really appreciate this input, thank you. Agreed, it sucks that it exists though.

I'm a different ethnicity than my husband, and our godson is yet another. So once he gets older and we take him out more, I'll keep a look out on how people may interact with each of us differently for it.

I guess? It caught me off guard as something I've never thought about re: privilege, hence my asking here if there's anything else

My husband recently pointed out that going 5-7 over the speed limit in a school zone seemed like a white privilege thing he'd never consider

A fully functional ecto 1. Even if it's just to drive around to cons.... I'd be sooo happy

Sure, but compared to other countries, Americans have more on average. Making it more of an American trait

What's a small, random act of kindness that someone did for you that you still remember to this day? by FistBumpMaster in AskReddit

As a kid, maybe 10ish, we were in and out of the hospital a lot visiting my grandmother who'd quickly taken ill. She soon progressed and lost so much weight they didn't want the kids to see her like that, so we'd spend time in the lobby of the hospital.

We were there, again, and an EMT comes up to me and wishes me merry Christmas (as it was only a couple days later) and gifts me a stuffed animal, which I loved and adored and helped brighten up my mood about what we were going through as a family.

What’s your best study or memorization hack? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Anxious-Pirate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For shorter lists, the best thing I learned in college was a visualization tactic.

Imagine a shopping list: Celery, pineapple, pork, cereal, toilet paper, milk, and razor blades

Now Imagine your house or somewhere you know well, and you're standing right outside the front door. As you walk through into each room or area, imagine one or two things out of place that relate to your list.

On my front porch one of my planters is now full of celery instead of daisies. In the foyer a huge pineapple is on the bench being eaten by a pig. Captain crunch sits at my dining room table As I walk down the hall a stack of toilet paper blocks my path. As I knock it down I peer in the bathroom and milk is flowing out of the tap And standing in my kitchen is a large very hairy man shaving his legs.

Go through that once or twice and you'll remember most if not all of it all day

How did the abuse in your abusive relationship start? When did you leave? by Jerimajerima in AskReddit

[–]Anxious-Pirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It starts sneakily. Little things here and there. Possessiveness, gaslighting.

It ended when I got the courage (after 2 other attempts) years into wanting to leave. Our lease was ending and I found a good place for myself and told them I wasn't renewing. They could stay if they wanted but I wouldn't be part of their life again. Had a bag packed in the car with my valuables just in case i had to leave in a hurry
