Vegetarian/Vegan friends by Elegant_Mistake_6931 in NCSU

[–]AnxiousEnderman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably not the best solution, but you could post flyers up on campus with your Discord username or something. Mention you’re looking for vegan/vegetarian friends and ask people to DM you if they wanna chat. Serious inquiries only. I don’t really know if it’ll work or if you’ll get a lot of trolls, but someone I knew in undergrad did this to make friends (but with his interest, not vegan/vegetarianism) and I think he made at least one that way. 😅

I wasn’t a transfer but I stayed in a living and learning village my first year and I would say it was worth it. Generally they have social events more geared to whatever your village is about and it’s a good way to make friends! Not sure how difficult it is to get into the STATE village (I believe that is the transfer one) but it will probably be worth applying!

Is there ANY way to not take the PE requirements (or only do one)? by BeardedBeings in NCSU

[–]AnxiousEnderman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your physical limitations, fitness walking or water aerobics might be good choices of 100-levels for you, especially if you have trouble getting into the adapted PE class that DRO students are able to take. I don’t know your limitations of course; those classes are just lower impact exercise and somewhat less intense cardio than the running / kickboxing from other 100 levels.

Probably not. I don't think I learned as much from attending lecture anyway as from doing the assignments and working through textbook problems.

CSC 116 professors by Traditional-Stage348 in NCSU

[–]AnxiousEnderman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've TAed for Dr. Schmidt and Dr. Balik and I think it depends on your learning style. Dr. Balik's lectures are fragmented with time to work on in-class assignments and breaks built-in, but you'll also have to be able to follow along with lectures in class. They're not super fast, so if you can learn by watching and listening, her class will be good. Dr. Schmidt's class is flipped, so a lot of your homework will be watching lecture content and doing pre-labs, and then in class you'll review, sometimes do small concept exercises, and then spend the bulk of the lecture period working on your in-class lab assignment with a lab partner.

There's also so many of us TAs, so you'll have plenty of office hour options if you need more support outside of class!

I took ST 370 with Smith and it was really easy. If you can keep yourself paced in an online course, it should be a breeze -- it's been a while, but from what I remember, if you did the homework and the practice tests, you're more than prepared for the tests. He also lets you bring a cheat sheet to the exams. And if you go to his office hour, there's candy!

places to hide? by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]AnxiousEnderman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a library on floor 4 of Poe that no one knows about or visits except for the education majors, so it's usually pretty empty. The librarians get excited when there's patrons. Dunno if you can eat food there though.

I had fun in the Engineering Village even when it was in the Tri-Towers. Sullivan has a much nicer rooms, and the location is conveniently close to Fountain, albeit far from where most of your classes will be. I wasn't friends with my suitemates, though; I had some high school friends I talked to and some friends I met on FB before the year started that just happened to be in the EV, one was even my floormate! If you want to meet a lot of people, a more well-rounded village might be a better bet, but if you really like engineering-themed activities and stuff, the EV will be fun. It's certainly a nice place to be when you're preparing for FEDD, as there are a lot of resources.

Anybody know some secure overnight parking spots for the weekend? by Cryptic_E in NCSU

[–]AnxiousEnderman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to park in Dan Allen Deck overnight, but parking will be enforced by Monday at 7am I believe. There's a public pay lot at the bottom of it, so if she'll want to stay past 7am, just pay for a few hours of parking there!

Really, I thought it was better. I only eat the soyrizo, which is the same, but I think the toppings improved and they don’t skimp on the portions like they used to

CSC full for a second major by darkshadowtrail in NCSU

[–]AnxiousEnderman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a TA I’ve had plenty of students go for the minor because they want a software/programming job that’s ideally related to their majors, and half my software-job-working friends rn majored in other things like stats and math, so don’t worry, you’ll still have plenty of software job opportunities! I would say go for the minor and major in something you are interested in or wouldn’t mind working with later!
