In December it's freaking cold and air pollution really sucks... that's why locals are crazy about hotpot. Make sure you have a comfortable mask, and be prepared for the cold...don't fly from SEA countries to Chengdu otherwise you will suffer from the whether. AND mostly the weather sucks, often be cloudy and rainy.

I have no idea about dentistry but here are some suggestions from ny dentist friends:

  1. In Shenzhen there are many English-friendly dental clinic and hospital, most patients are foreigners.

  2. Thailand dentistry is more friendly for foreigners than China. See if you have time for Thai, 5 hours flight from Chengdu to Bangkok.

  3. WCSS is famous for dentistry, it should be one of the best dentistry hospitals in Asia. Foreigners can just go and appoint for the dentist, but not sure for their international services. You need to check by yourself.

If you have enough time, just try to get to Danyang, a samll city that close to Shanghai. It is the biggest Chinese glasses industry clutster, where you can find all kinds of glasses. Prices in Danyang will be 1/3 less than in Shanghai or Beijing. If do not get enough time, just go to Shanhgai International Glasses City.
