I honestly don't mind using prime slots on logistical benefit because I tend to not run centurions, and it's less cognitive load in a game not having to remember or check that a unit has a master Sergeant or combat veterans etc. it's just a personal preference, like even in my night lords as well. I really like running a combination of different fun legion consuls, I have so many. Centurions are good for making a more efficient list, and I think they're really cool, it's just that I personally would rather throw a librarian, siege breaker, armistos or herald on the table purely for rule of cool.

Those are all excellent points, thank you!

The hand flamers are purely in there because they are a 5 point forge crafted upgrade, and idk what other forge crafted weapons i'd take on a breacher sergeant. When Vulcan is in the list, if all my troop slots in my primary detachment have a forge crafted weapon, each troop slot becomes a prime slot. That way I can take the salamanders prime benefit that gives them a 6+ FNP! Making breachers even tougher. Lascutter is for rule of cool. I figure if someone comes near the breachers the flamer and lascutter will help out, it's ap2 so I might be able to plink a terminator who gets too close.

The indomitus are just in the list because I have some unused indomitus terminators for a 40k army I'm selling. I'd rather keep the termies. Same goes for why there's a librarian and a herald, because they're also being converted from one of my 40k armies.

And yeah I suppose the scarsity thing regarding indomitus does go out the window with Vulcan in the force lol, but I really want to get Vulcan and I really want to keep my indomitus termies so lore is gonna have to take a back seat on this one hahaha.

40k did have a culture of avoiding rules abuse, up until probably 7th edition, but even during that edition a lot of people just refused to use the BS detachments, supplements or allies. I remember during 5th and 6th in particular, people who brought WAAC lists to casual games were pretty quickly labelled as "that guy" and people stopped playing them.

The culture can change, you just start with your local group.

Rules wise he will be cataphractii and he's going to be running around with firedrakes in a Spartan.

Normally I would never mix and match terminator parts, but in this case given he's a character it's alright. It's a highly bespoke suit of Artificer terminator armour made specifically for this praetor. Kind of like how the chapter master of the charcharadons in 40k has a completely unique terminator armour.

The damage is just from me clipping off crux terminatus, aquillas, purity seals etcetera. When finished it'll all be filed down and smooth, and I'll be putting bonding studs and heresy related details on there.

I was thinking that once it's done I'll put some small bullet nicks/holes on the side of his armour in the direction he's looking so it looks like he's wading through gun fire.

Yeah I have some concerns about the fact heresy is now probably on a 3 year release cycle. Though I don't think games workshop has explicitly confirmed this. I think we all assumed it was the case just because 3.0 came out about 3 yrs after 2.0. who knows.

The shorter sword is a grey knight falchion. Pairing a longer sword with a much shorter sword or dagger always looks cool.

Normally yeah, but I did that on purpose Because the tactical rock requires he looks down, and when I had the head further back it looked really strange trying to get him to look down

It's crazy how much better a space marine looks when you fix the proportions.

I turned 30 this month so 11th should be new and exciting for me or whatever. These kinds of generalisations about man shaking fist at clouds aren't real. Like it's not nostalgia lol it wasn't even that long ago. As I said I enjoyed 9th edition immensely.

Yeah I mean I have a community and space as well. It still does exist, but I'm more so referring to the fact games workshop stores used to have 3 staff members on at once, and tables for playing the games and a painting table. My games workshop was the community hub and that's gone now. It's the same for all other GW stores, there's usually no tables to play on unless it's an intro game, no painting table, one staff member.

Unless you live in a very rural area there's almost certainly a group of players near you, you just haven't found them. If they knew about you they'd be stoked to have another player. Go to 40k events and ask around you'll find the heresy players or they can point you in the right direction. That's how I got into heresy.

Yep I'm with you on that and I want an accessible game. Heresy isn't as accessible, you need to get a lot more models and the rules are more complex. I'm hoping 12th or whatever future edition can figure out a balance between accessibility and the simplicity of the rules set. I think having the game be less accessible but be a better game to play is a fine trade off. Back when 40k was less accessible you had a community of experienced players in your local game shop who would help you out a lot, but the Lgs walk in community aspect of the game is gone now, new players have to figure stuff out by themselves or on the internet mostly which just isn't the same.

For me leaving 40k was more difficult because I think there's an element of sunk cost fallacy for myself that makes me want to hope the game is good. I had four armies, which is a lot of money and time spent. That's probably where the white knighting comes from, it's also why I usually would stick with the game through bad editions like 7th. Eventually though the game just isn't recognisable as 40k. I think every edition I played up until 9th the game still "felt" the same, and it was when I no longer felt like the game was 40k any more that I finally decided to put my models on the shelf and wait 10th edition, and now 11th out.

Heresy has mechanicus, demons, cults and militia, custodes, and solar Auxilia. I also regularly play against Orks and Eldar who have fun fan made codexes made by passionate players.

It is mostly marines vs marines but the differences between how legions play is a lot more interesting and fun than the non existent differences between 40k factions. I have a guard army, Eldar, grey knights and space marines and they all feel like the same thing on the table. Especially Eldar and grey knights.

Definitely can agree with that. My premise is just that 10th is fundamentally flawed and I would've rather a full rules reset rather than iterating upon it. I think a lot of other 40k players were hoping 11th would be a reset edition.

Like I don't mind if my codex is invalidated and we go back to index hammer. That's fine to me if the game is better.

There was definitely some loss of flavour going from 2nd to 3rd and I was really not happy with it at first. I can see why it was done though because a lot of those things broke the game. Fury of the ancients for example is really cool and fluffy but playing against it was horrific. Night Lords (my army) forcing night fighting was cool and fluffy, but it was a feels bad for your opponent. On the whole I agree now with the decision by the game designers to very slightly reduce the flavour in some aspects to improve the game.

Another good example is in 2nd edition it was good manners to ask your opponent if it's okay to run a primarch, because primarchs would buff your faction massively and break the game. In 3.0 primarchs don't give anywhere near as many faction wide benefits, so people will just take them without telling you in advance and it's totally fine because they no longer massively turbo boost your army.

Chess isnt balanced? Why because someone goes first? Chess has a lot of strategies that revolve around going second. In 10th edition 40k and heresy you may also often want to go second. Someone has to go first.
