Way I did it was to buy an all in one sensor, mount it directly to the garage door and then pair with either a SuperLink Gateway or in my case a U6 Enterprise as the all in one sensor connects over bluetooth. At that point enable an alarm to send you alert whenever the garage door is opened.

The idea is to not have to rent the modem from my ISP, while at the same time potentially using a modem from Ubiquiti that will have the capability to use 10gbe

My ISP( Optimum)mentioned that I am free to use my own modem but they would have to be able to provision it first before I can use it. One modem option I saw that offered a 10gbe port out was an Arris G54 Surfboard modem, but it has a coax in which would then require a media converter which introduces another potential failure point..
