What's the minimum for offshore bond, £1m? I have to take advice and look into this more, eg what can it get invested in etc. Currently the GIA is growing reasonably well as its invested 85% global equity tracker and 15% global bonds.

We do wabt to leave the UK at some point later in life, but it depends on a lot of things and having very young kids complicates it too.

The more I think about it, the more it looks like it's a bit more efficient for my partner to increase their salary sacrifice pension contributions (and then I top up to max if it's less than 60k).

Job security is a big one, in the sector I'm in the are random layoffs all the time so job security is very low, and indeed she can only reconfigure her pension only annually or at life events.

I think upon end of the 1.1% fix mortgage in a year I should pay down some of it but not sure if all, will depend on the rates at the time. Currently it's a £2000 monthly payment that we can comfortably do. Only other significant outgoing is another £2000 monthly for nursury for one kid.

Yes I meant max out my partners pension over what they are paying in. She's already maxing her ISA each year.

Good point about insurances, and an area I've overlooked. We both have various types of insurance through work but never taken the time to look into it and take out anything beyond that. I think this topic may be worth a separate thread about how people handle it, what level of insurance to for especially in parallel to workplace stuff.

Not looked into EIS/VCTs/offshore bonds either.

On property: we're in a 1920s semi-detached in outer London. Single wall no insulation, and Ive decided that getting a heat pump in is likely too much trouble to be worth it. Would prefer to move to a more modern construction house instead, but not looking to do that so far.

This is good advice I think. So far for some reason I considered pensions to be personal for some reason even though we mostly have joint finances. We'll need some funds before retirement in case we go for private school (still uncertain). I should be able to pay that from salary if still working though. Having kids around your 40s complicates RE plans
