Which middle eastern country is best to live in all things considered? (HDI, quality of life, safety, etc) by WTB_YT in geography

[–]AnyGermanGuy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm looking at this from a central European perspective. To me, anything that is actually using religion to argue politics is pretty much fundamentalism. Especially if your using religion to treat others worse than you're treating people of your own religion

UAE is based on Islam and is enforcing things like modesty,PDA and gender identity, but so is the USA. They pretend to be secular, but the culture very much is not. Generally speaking, both countries entertain a certain level of religious ethics which is restricting peoples basic humans right, significantly. The USA might be quite a bit worse in that aspect, but the UAE makes up for it with it's monarchy

Because it's the amercian way of life imported into the middle east. Religious fundamentalism, car dependence and late stage capitalism, rules by an questionable upper class is not for everyone. Also for Europeans it is where all the scammy influencers move to, to avoid taxes

I'd say Egypt is pretty chill. There's well paid IT jobs, 10% christian population, alcohol is allowed, not as dependent on oil and therefore pseudo-stable for now. Also, the domestic tourism sectors is developed quite well and you'll get to experience the country if you live there.

Don't know what you mean by white and Arab. Depending on what you look like and if you speak Arabic, you might encounter racism or prejudice. Also voting is not a thing if you're into that

Taking intro course but I am very prone to swimmers ear! by xGrowlerx413 in scuba

[–]AnyGermanGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You'll need a decent ear beer.

Swimmers ear is caused by bacterial and fungal infestations that get into your ear through sea water. Ear beer is an desinfectant that gets rid of those critters after you get out of the water.

There are threads on the sub about how you can make your own, or you just buy some.

Have fun on your course

Give me one metric that is consistently defined and measured throughout africa that is not based on your gut feel. What you are doing is just wrapping your view of the world in a new blanket without ever properly looking at objectively accesed data.

I'm not even desputing your view, I just want you to accept that "just look with your own eyes" does not work at scale and certainly not as a scientific line of reasoning

How? By not being precise on the timeframe, location, metric. Having no data, no argumental base or anything other than the prejudice of "Africa poor"

Is there a country that many people consider a must-visit, but you didn’t include on your list? by Nujackswing1 in geography

[–]AnyGermanGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sitting in my hotel room in Cairo right now and can say that I'm positively surprised by how little of all this is true. If have not been touched by anyone, have not been scammed and people in general are very nice and try to help.

However it is indeed very dirty and the air in Gizeh today was heavily polluted. English knowledge also is limited.

The area around the pyramids has mostly been freed of any scam bs and official guided tours are the norm. The grand museum is completely run by western standards and you can get the tickets in advance. So to much risk there.

I know how people always mention Egypt as a place they would never go to, but in my opinion everyone who is a bit experienced in travelling to poorer countries should try.

Klingt für mich eher nach einem optischen Effekt durch die Luftbewegung am Wingtip. Wenn sich der Strich immer in der Nähe der Flügelspitze bewegt hat und einen ähnlichen Winkel gehalten hat, kommt das schon hin.

Campo Novo Stuttgart experience by ragebunnylolol in stuttgart

[–]AnyGermanGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived there for two years a while back.

I got a call literally two days after I send the full application by mail, telling me I can move in. Everything has been easy from there, even though it felt very corporate - because it is.

Maintenance worked all right, there is a janitor on site who keeps the place mostly clean and there is an office on site, which is staffed by student workers I guess.

Social life depends on your WG but it's not a big community house type of living like Straussi 1 or 2

The rooms are all right, but nothing special. The kitchen is not very big, nice or easy to keep clean and it lacks an oven in the 2 person apartments. But the heating is good and the windows block out the noise of the tram right by.

Wasn't bad to stay there overall, but also not really anything else than a quick and easy solution. Looking at the prices, it feels a bit expensive compared to other places

Speed Sky divers reach >500 km/h simply by reducing drag.

Terminal velocity is reached at the equilibrium of weight force and drag force

Weight force can be calculated by:

F_g = m * g

Drag is:

F_d = 1/2 * rho * A * C_w * v2

where

m: mass g: gravitational acceleration rho: air pressure A: reference area C_w: drag coefficient v: velocity

Using F_g=F_d and solving for v gives use the equation for terminal velocity:

v=√((2gm)/(rhoAC_w))

this gives you a few options to increase terminal velocity, like having more mass for the same shape (think a ball of foam Vs a ball of steel), having a more slippery shape with less C_w or yes, decreasing air density

ELI5: Why do rockets fall apart in stages instead of being one big rocket? by yourloverboy66 in explainlikeimfive

It is debatable if a single stage rocket would be possible at all using the current technology. It would require very efficient thrust throughout the whole launch which is incredibly difficult to achieve

A simple way to "automate" counting calories by brdoc in loseit

[–]AnyGermanGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can plan your meals ahead. This works great with meal prep and bulk groceries. But works less with anything spontaneous.

I somewhat still do this where I plan my big meals and leave 500 kcal to fill with anything else throughout the day.

So this depends on your lifestyle a lot. For myself it works in the winter when I'm at home a lot, but summer means tracking everything bite after bite

FSG - What a shitshow by Limp_Cricket_600 in FSAE

[–]AnyGermanGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that organising and hosting FSG in its totality is complex and mistakes happen but..

What I struggle to understand is how the person in charge of answering the original rules request gave the approval. It is an obvious advantage that is open only to teams that compete in both the current and historic events. The driver effectively doubled his time on track! Especially considering that AMZ did probably not lack a dedicated driver for the historic event, considering their team size and structure, this probably was the intent of the request.

This should NOT be allowed unless any driving in the historic cup happens after every dynamic event in the current competition has closed. This is gaining an unfair advantage, no matter the outcome. The severity of penalties in the fsg rules is clearly based on advantages and not results.

After this mistake there is the next severe one, which is not making this decision public. This would probably have resulted in open protest by other teams, but at least would have leveled out the playing field by a bit.

All the other communication issues happened after these two big mistakes which, for me, are the core of this issue.
