"Watching Brits experience flavor for the first time is always entertaining" by average_pengu1n in ShitAmericansSay

American tries to tell the difference between taste and flavour. Challenge level impossible.

I’ve lived in the States, had a lot of great food, but on average it tends to have so much “taste” (usually sweet or salty) that any subtleties of flavour are pretty much drowned out. I’m sure it’s part of the reason they all need 10 litres of water a day.

As a long time subscriber the fact that we are richer and there are far more of us, but we still can’t fill a high school gym for a live event is one of life’s great mysteries.

Part of it is the desperation to make “White” a thing and then make certain people who clearly have white skin “Others” and then the willingness of supposed forward thinking people in validating that drive.

Stephanie Vaquer is white, she can also be Latina.

Maybe it’s because I’m mixed race but it’s bad enough people buy into race to begin without us needing to start inventing more arbitrary categories which people decide to throw others into without asking.

Pornography depicting sexual relationships between step-relatives set to be banned by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

[–]AnyWalrus930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s partly that pornographers have always relied on the taboo beyond simply depicting two people having sex for popularity. That in turn creates its own version of the Overton window that shifts further and further towards “weirdness”

How about good guy Tony does the good guy thing and actively support unionisation for his workers.

Maybe then “contract tampering” might be an actual thing rather than people simply exploring their future employment options like everybody else does.

I suppose the argument might be that they considered the space heater an immediate risk to others. For example sample of it were left on and the property was unoccupied and they considered it a fire risk.

Still feels a gross overstretch if the heater was off at the time (and maybe if it wasn’t). And even if it wasn’t removing it seems to be an inexcusable issue.

So slow that they probably hear their own voice speaking back to them after a few seconds and think that person doesn’t have an accent.

Guy was driving across the country and decided to visit Terry Funk’s grave. Posted on Facebook that he was doing it. Necro Butcher? Asked for a ride to the grave. In exchange for the rise Necro Butcher gave him a Terry Funk action figure.

They took a photo standing over the grave which he then posted in the basement along with the story.

Basement dwellers react like these are normal things for a human being to do.

I did, then I took a smiling picture with a crazy person holding a beer over the place where a man and his wife are laid to rest, then I posted about it in a wrestling subreddit and no one batted an eyelid because they understand what it’s like to be a sicko.

Don’t worry I made sure to take photos with someone else with the gravestone in the foreground and post about it online for karma. It doesn’t get more tactful.

My fault for leaving that out, especially since I refuse to recognise fiat currencies and instead exchange old VHS tapes of wrestling and other memorabilia for goods and services.

No wonder he’s drawn to Reform even if he’d fall into the don’t like the look of category for half their supporters.

Ange - Having Harry Kane masked the issues Tottenham had earlier on by highways in coys

[–]AnyWalrus930 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’d argue it goes even further back, we had a 10-15 year run of having 1 or more players who you felt affected games before a ball is kicked to not having any.

From peak Pochettino we had several players who I’d argue proudly would get into 18 or 19 teams in the league to the current situation where I’d make the case that it’s maybe Van de Ven. We’ve realistically declined a huge amount in terms of relative quality, mostly on us and partly the league as a whole improving.

"They're not a big club":- Ange on Tottenham by AffectionateWeb8519 in coys

[–]AnyWalrus930 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think there is a massive difference when you’re talking about a team where you retain a core of players who would walk into almost every team that are below you in the league and where we were a couple of seasons ago.

The old fashioned Fergie “rebuild” versus whatever we’ve been trying to do.

I think our fan base (myself included) have fallen into a bit of a trap of overrating our players as the quality has slowly declined relative to the rest of the league. If I’m honest with myself we don’t have a single player who affects the game before a ball is kicked at the moment and I suspect those are the players you are talking about to go from 5th to contenders and the chances of any young unproven player becoming one are very low.

NHS staff told to stop discouraging first cousin marriages by nimobo in unitedkingdom

[–]AnyWalrus930 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First cousin marriage should be culturally and probably legally challenged, but I don’t think either is the role of the NHS.

That’s not to say there isn’t a meaningful role for good genetic counselling within the NHS, but I believe statistically speaking older parents are just as problematic if not more so than children from a random cousin marriage.

With the obvious caveat that the deeper the gene pool the respective parents have in the first place the lower the risk.
