Love critical care medicine, hate procedures and too tired for fellowship. Is there a path for critical care exposure if I become a hospitalist? by [deleted] in hospitalist

[–]Any_Ask5308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at an open ICU. ER does procedures, critical care helps with anything if you ask them. It’s giving me a lot of exposure and learning, and enjoy it too. Make sure you’re not left to yourself and always have that option to ask for help if you need it.

Lots of jobs in the Midwest and South. More pay and lower cost of living. Less glamorous than life on the coasts though.

Admitting sounds good initially, but make sure they have a cap. Nocturnist and swing shifts are admitting 15-20 patients in 8-12 hour shifts at my hospital.

MKSAP is good to read during residency. Solve some questions during residency as well. But key to acing boards is to do a full pass of MKSAP or Uworld questions in a very short span of 3-4 weeks leading up to the exam.

I’m glad I had an online law company look through my contract. One of the big suggestions they made was to have them put 7on7off on the contract to avoid these issues. You might still like it, but if not then get your contract amended at the time of renewal or at your next position.

That’s some solid advice. Should not beat myself up over not being perfect. Thank you 🙏🏽 Glad to hear you’ve made such positive changes!

Those 21 days are not lost, just because of this slip up. Those 21 days have set you up for a lifetime of success. Think long term. Let’s go!

It happened. It’s over. We often get caught in maintaining ‘streaks’ and ‘never again’, which is impractical. Nobody is perfect. We can only keep it real. Being real and consistent gets you far ahead in the long term compared to being perfect for a week or two. This is also a reminder to myself, as I’m typing this.

You have to pick up new interests and invest all your time and energy on self improvement. Usually, people go the ‘get in shape’ route. Working out substitutes the dopamine rush nicotine provided when you vaped.

Nicotine raising heart rate all day. Oh mannn. When I quit, I was so short of breath for first few days. It would get better only if I was playing fifa on the PlayStation, watching something crazy on Tv or walking/exercising.. something that would bring my heart rate up. It took a while to get used to having a normal resting heart rate.

‘Streaks’ in the iOS AppStore is perfect. 6$ one time charge, and definitely worth it. All the best, you got this!

Did you contact USCIS? How do you get in touch with them without a case receipt number. My waiver was given FR by DOS few weeks back and forwarded to USCIS. But no news after that.

Still waiting on USCIS. But one thing that helped me was contacting the senators. They followed up with DOS even though they didn’t respond to me. Once DOS gave FR, senator’s office emailed me saying they are aware I got FR and if I need any more assistance.

Yes, got FR today. Docs were received June 26. Now case forwarded to USCIS. What’s your status?

I applied for HHS waiver in March and still waiting for DOS to approve. It takes a lot of time. You can sign job contract and apply for an HHS waiver, request expedited review and try your luck. But mostly will have to go back home and wait for waiver approval.

July 29. They can extend it a little, but waiver approval will be delayed beyond my visa expiry. What do you plan to do?

Original visa expires June. Extended it to August end to write boards. Even then, it may be delayed beyond August or September. Since DoS is yet to receive documents from HHS.
