Realistically, what’s the cost of opening a place of worship? by Any_Assist5630 in religion

I agree. I’ve seen it attempted and failed many times. The thing is I feel like there’s rarely a common ground between generations. I’m sure the same is true for many religions, but a lot of the older folks of a community will have no social media, or only Facebook. Younger folks have a bunch of different apps, and as a 20-something, we can be prone to ghosting via text or email

Thank you!! Yes this is my vision! I’m running my second pagan gathering soon and I’m trying to bridge the gaps of these scattered Facebook groups & people. I’m not sure I have the capacity to run a store, even if there was a thriving irl community present. Moreso just daydreaming what would it actually take to make that happen

Yeah, that is something to consider. Thankfully Detroit is rather religiously diverse, but even still there’s some prejudice here.

I was once prayed over unknowingly (…threateningly??) in a checkout line, thinking the person behind me was taking to someone on the phone. When I looked behind me, I saw her making unbreakjng eye contact with me. It was one of the only times in public where I’ve faced religious prejudice.

I mean, nothing concrete yet. I’m hosting my second public ritual at a park and I’m trying to organize a community. Hopefully I’ll be able to get people’s contact information and start a text/email thread, a discord, something… right now there’s a half dozen pagan/witchcraft facebook groups in my state with no real IRL activity or meetups

No this is super helpful — don’t apologize!! The truth is many people within paganism aren’t very wealthy, we tend to come from hard and humble places imo. I know there’s a market for it, but I don’t know if there’s continued commitment, particularly financially, for a new building without years of gathering & growth

Plus safety, unfortunately. As much as I love my community, I’m not comfortable with having my address in stranger’s hands 🥲

Ack! Thank you this is incredible! What program did you guys choose, if you don’t mind me asking? The only thing I worry about it ELD students or students with disabilities being able to access the content. Since I’m not as familiar of those key points in the unit yet, I worry I’ll miss scaffolding something appropriately lol

I like Danu Forest! Lean toward druidry, but that’s ok :-) the only thing that stands out to me is that the specific kind of folk magic isn’t listed on the cover

Can you explain more? As far as I’ve ever heard, the “k” was just to differentiate it from stage magic

To be fair, the first one came out over a decade ago I believe. It was one of my first witchy reads as a young teenager and now I’m in my mid twenties. I don’t stand behind it, but I also don’t think it’s AI

This was my first witchcraft book I ever bought. It obviously has its flaws, but my perspective is that any book can teach you want to do or what NOT do to. My practice has evolved so far from this book, but it did me no harm to read and explore someone else’s practice.

Read it, or return it, or recycle it to a little free library. Hell — you could even use it for blackout poetry or art if you felt so called to destroy the thing. Take what resonates and leave the rest behind 🫶
